Art Authentication: #2
On the tape is this hand-written message:
This seal authenticates this ___(object)___ as an artwork. Once this ___(object)___ ___(action present)___, this seal will rip and its authentication is terminated. The act
of this ___(object)___'s functionality denies its existence as art.
This came from an instant message conversation with my brother (see the comments on this post for the entire conversation).
By placing the seal on something, it can be declared as artwork, but once it performs its actual function, the seal rips and the artwork is devalidated.
The Michigan Avenue bridge is an interesting object to place this on, because it's one of the largest moving objects in the world.
