Parking Meter Talk

About Parking Meter Talk
Parking meters around the city have little word bubbles attached to show what they would say if they could talk.

Their message is about the future. Parking meters are all about time and letting you know that you only have a small amount of time with where you are at. Parking meters think it's a good idea to think aout where you are going and what you are doing.

But are they talking about the immediate future and little things like shopping and errands? Or are they talking about bigger issues about our time on this planet?

You can participate too
This is an ongoing series, I encourage anyone out there to also leave these word bubbles on parking meters. You can take a sheet of paper and write out a bunch of phrases and draw a little circle or rectangle word bubble around it. Then just cut 'em out and and tape them onto the parking meter.

I'm not a big fan of making artwork in public hard to remove, so I recommend using masking tape to adhere them. That way, if someone finds the artwork intersting, they can easily remove it, and take it home as a souvenir. And on the flip side, if someone really hates it, we aren't forcing someone to keep in on their property, because y'know, parking meters belong to all of us as a society. ;-)

There's a group on flickr called "Parking Meter Talk." Feel free to join and submit your photos to this group.

Things I've learned from this series
I'm digging how this series is shaping up. I think my photos could improve on them, so that's exciting to know that this series can improve.

I should have put some money in each of the meters, because every photo so far has the time expired, and the idea is that the time is limited, not totally gone. If the time is expired on the meter, then that's essentially like the end of life. That's a little weird.

Also, I would like to photograph more meters in neighborhoods. I feel like that those are the more intriguing photos. And the single-style meters are the best. Those big monster meters downtown are just too... I don't know I just dont' like them too much. I also hope to get more people in the background. It's always nice to have that extra human element in the work.
