I don't know why the don't just raise the rate to mail a letter to 50 cents or even $1. These one-a-penny-two-a-penny increases are just silly.
They're obviously spending more than they are making. Maybe cuts need to be made in their spending. They have to compete with several overnight services AND the Internet [who mails letters anymore now that there is email?] There's clearly a whole host of problems. But what are the answers?

i'm glad they are still 39 cents. I'm much happier with 2-cent hikes rather than 25-cent or 50-cent hikes.

i think a larger hike like that would cause a lot of people to use stuff like bill pay and email even more. it is sad. i'm a big fan of stamps and mail.

I think I need my Yam Roll, Lisa! The rumor is that you know the creator!!
I love getting real mail and I love stamps! There have been some very cool designs as of late. Even the new 39 cent stamp commemorating the Olympics isn't too terrible.
A friend of mine is the Mail Art Queen! Some of the things she creates are magical. The most recent had postage totaling $3.74. Three of them are $1 stamps. Care to guess the subject matter of a $1 stamp?
