Angel does suck. His calls are always off and he does highly unorthodox things at the plate. Recently he tossed Ivan Rodriguz in the first inning for "smiling at him." This is wrong.

Doesn't MLB have year end assessments on umpires? This guy is not the worst umpire, he's incompetent!
It's admirable that he works with the Boys and Girls club, but maybe that's where he should be umpiring...NOT in the MLB! What an idiot!

I umpire in amature men's baseball leagues in New Jersey and the umpires "code of ethics" is thou shall not speak ill of your fellow umpire. Well, throw that out the window when it comes to Angel Hernandez. His blown calls are not even marginal. They are horrific. How on earth does this guy remain in the majors?

Watched an Astros-Cards game tonight and yet another of his massive accummulation of bad calls was highlighted by Joe Morgan. Biggio was clearly out of the baseline (running on the grass, right in front of Herenandez) trying to avoid a tag on what would have been an inning ending DP and Herenandez blew the call. Biggio remained at secondbase, next batter walked and the batter following hit a 3 run jack ... all precipitated by the blown call. This guy is an embarassment to the game but, unfortunately for the fans, he's in the good ol' boys club and here to stay until death he departs (which, as far as I'm concerned, can't come soon enough for the good of the game). This guy is living, breathing justification for umpiring quality control reviews.

Does anybody know if Angel will be getting any of the assigned playoff games? For the integrity of the game lets hope that he is no where to be found. His blown calls leave you jaw dropping and speechless....

Angel has the worst eye of any umpire I've ever seen. He should be banned from any distance within 90 ft. of home plate. The MLB is disservicing the fans and players by keeping this guy on payroll.

I watched the Braves vs. the Giants for the past couple of days and I must say all the comments concerning Angel Hernandez are right on! But we must give credit where credit is due: his umpire teammates are as bad if not worse. Tonight, Angel called 2 baulks on Tim Hudson when he did NOTHING wrong. Last night, the dunce behind the plate was calling pitches 6-8 inches inside as strikes -- sometimes! I think umpiring as a whole leaves little to be desired.

Well, Angel strikes again. In his infinite wisdom he decided that Joba chamberlain was throwing intentionall over Youkilis' head and tossed him. No warning, no "hey kid, get it together", nothing. He tosses him and then a 2 game suspension follows him. It's Hernandez who should be suspended. For the rest of his life. The best umpires are the ones who remain nameless. Hernandez loves the limelight of having an impact on the game he is unable to play.
