Angel does suck. His calls are always off and he does highly unorthodox things at the plate. Recently he tossed Ivan Rodriguz in the first inning for "smiling at him." This is wrong.

Doesn't MLB have year end assessments on umpires? This guy is not the worst umpire, he's incompetent!
It's admirable that he works with the Boys and Girls club, but maybe that's where he should be umpiring...NOT in the MLB! What an idiot!

How is this guy still in the majors?he blew another call today with the mets!

I umpire in amature men's baseball leagues in New Jersey and the umpires "code of ethics" is thou shall not speak ill of your fellow umpire. Well, throw that out the window when it comes to Angel Hernandez. His blown calls are not even marginal. They are horrific. How on earth does this guy remain in the majors?

Watched an Astros-Cards game tonight and yet another of his massive accummulation of bad calls was highlighted by Joe Morgan. Biggio was clearly out of the baseline (running on the grass, right in front of Herenandez) trying to avoid a tag on what would have been an inning ending DP and Herenandez blew the call. Biggio remained at secondbase, next batter walked and the batter following hit a 3 run jack ... all precipitated by the blown call. This guy is an embarassment to the game but, unfortunately for the fans, he's in the good ol' boys club and here to stay until death he departs (which, as far as I'm concerned, can't come soon enough for the good of the game). This guy is living, breathing justification for umpiring quality control reviews.

Does anybody know if Angel will be getting any of the assigned playoff games? For the integrity of the game lets hope that he is no where to be found. His blown calls leave you jaw dropping and speechless....

Angel has the worst eye of any umpire I've ever seen. He should be banned from any distance within 90 ft. of home plate. The MLB is disservicing the fans and players by keeping this guy on payroll.

I watched the Braves vs. the Giants for the past couple of days and I must say all the comments concerning Angel Hernandez are right on! But we must give credit where credit is due: his umpire teammates are as bad if not worse. Tonight, Angel called 2 baulks on Tim Hudson when he did NOTHING wrong. Last night, the dunce behind the plate was calling pitches 6-8 inches inside as strikes -- sometimes! I think umpiring as a whole leaves little to be desired.

Well, Angel strikes again. In his infinite wisdom he decided that Joba chamberlain was throwing intentionall over Youkilis' head and tossed him. No warning, no "hey kid, get it together", nothing. He tosses him and then a 2 game suspension follows him. It's Hernandez who should be suspended. For the rest of his life. The best umpires are the ones who remain nameless. Hernandez loves the limelight of having an impact on the game he is unable to play.

Hernandez is an idiot. Watched him throw Lugo out of the game last night. Hernandez called Ibanez's swing safe, so Lugo says "check" and so does Lowell. Hernandez glares at Lugo, and Lugo asks "why are you staring at me?", and Hernandez ejects him from 40 feet away, then Francona comes out for an explanation....doesen't scream or gesture or seem confrontational at all and Hernandez ejects him immediately......for asking for an explanation to a call. Lowell standing right there confirmed all of this and said, "I don't know why he ejected them"....This guy Hernandez is a tool...he should be canned.

My goal would be for him to make ONE GAME not about him. He is a terrible umpire and couldn't be more inconsistent. He involves himself into the game and he's horrible.

Well the Tampa Bay Rays managed to win last night against Toronto inspite of that idiot ump Hernandez. Everytime they showed where a pitch actually crossed the plate after he called it a strike it was incredible just how bad his calls were. And then to pull the stunt that he did with Carlos Pena I give Joe Madden so much credit, if it had been me, I would have decked him!

Angel Hernandez needs to get tossed.... between yesterdays game (06-01-2010) and todays game (06-02-2010) with Sean Rodriguez touching 3rd & Hernandez calling it an out, he continues to exhibit poor judgment on his calls and disregard that th egame is played by the players and not the Umps. He needs to leave!!!

We need to start an online petition to submit to the MLB Commissioner demanding he be fired. If anyone else were to screw up at their job as much as this guy does they'd be fired in a heartbeat. I think the Commissioner should stand up to the umpires union since they seem incapable of policing their own.

Hernandez's history should speak for istself enough to knock him out of the game.

It's 2011 and I'm watching the Reds play against the Rays with Angel Boy behind the dish. God he is horrible. He is consistently inconsistent. He'll call a strike a foot out of the strike zone on one batter then not call it for the next hitter only to ring up the following player on a ball that almost bounces to the plate!! Memo to MLB: Read these comments. Look at the history. And get rid of him. Pronto!
