Dutch consumer electronics maker Philips, the co-creator of the CD, is opposed to the recent trend in copy-protected audio-CDs that contain countermeasures that prevent playback on computers and, in some unintended cases, normal CD players as well.

The controversial new anti-copying technology introduces minute errors to the CDs, or changes the location of data on the discs to prevent them from being played back on computers. In theory, most consumer CD players can correct the errors and decipher the structure, unlike the more finicky computer CD drives.

Even when the protection technology works as intended, Wirtz said that normal wear and tear could eventually overwhelm the error correction for the altered discs, causing them to become unreadable within a few years.

How to spot one of these CDs? These CDs will not be carrying the official "Compact Disc" Logo. For the full story go to:

Apple had been super hyping this on their website for weeks with lines such as
"it will change your life"
"This one is big. Even by our standards"
"Count the days. Count the minutes. Count on being blown away,"
"5 days to MacWorld San Francisco. Beyond the rumor sites. Way beyond."

So i was thinking this was gonna be HUGE.

My first impression was, "that's freakin it?" "just a new freakin iMac?" I wanted something that will change my life. Something that will control my refrigerator and my oven. Something that will hook up to my tv set and VCR and stereo.

But
i like how the monitor moves in those animations, like a little rabbit. It's got some personality. And it does look futuristic.
And it is nice to say this is the death of the CRT monitor. And it is loaded compared to what Apple was offering for this last year. Models last year with the same features were going for like $3500 to $4500.

But still, that's it? I was expecting something much more impactful.

here's my complaints:
* not for under $999?
* where's the custom colors?
* not PCI port expandable?
* i don't like how the speakers are separate (makes too many wires)
* I want to hook this sucker up to my receiver and get Dolby Surround Sound 5.1
* how about a Mac palmpilot, that hooks up to the keyboard

Anytime something techy goes wrong, blame the "Y2K+2" bug and you will be so cool. You can do it for the rest of 2002.

It's winter time and I was digging through my closet for some gloves. I pulled out a pair of gloves that were black and I was happy, because I have a black jacket. So I wore them. They are super fuzzy gloves both on the outside and on the inside. As I did basic tasks like opening a door, getting my bus pass out, etc, I found that these gloves made me feel like some sort of muppet character. Kinda like Fozzy the Bear.

I found this on the Tribune intranet job listings. Can you imagine having this job? Hounding down people who don't pay for their Chicago Tribune? ugh.
