real baseball

"The great trouble with baseball today is that most players are in the game for the money that's in it - not for the love of it, the excitement, and the thrill of it."нннн -Ty Cobb, 1960

bubblewrap the bulls

A photographer took this pic by wrapping his camera in bubble wrap and shooting it from a remote location. I say they should just bubble wrap the bulls. News story.

another hole in your head

what would you do with another hole in your head? I'm thinking I would like to use it as a pencil holder. Actually, it would be nice to have a port in my head so that I could hook up my brain with my computer to download all the information in the world.

New art project

I would like to post little signs up in various areas explaining the history behind that site. i.e. In relation to yesterday's post about advertisting areas on the buses being empty, a sign could be posted with a brief factoid about something in the history of that train. Those signs are screaming for the attention of bored commuters

bus advertising

the Chicago cta buses and trains interior advertising areas have a lot of empty spaces lately. Looks like an ample opportunity for some artists to post their work

black market spray paint

The city of Chicago does not allow the sale of spray paint (anti-graffitti measures). So whenever i go to the burbs to buy spray paint, i feel like i'm going to the black market to purchase it.

Groundhog croquet characters

I've been thinking about the development of the two groundhogs in my comic strip Groundhog Croquet. The current book i'm reading from the harold washington library, 20 Master Plots mentioned two types of plots: action plots and plots of the mind.
AesopLion: symbol of strength, represents force, power, physical strength. Not bright, being strong is enoughFox: clever, witty, devious. Strength isn't physical, it's mental
Greek masks of tragedyFrowning Mask: tragedy, the theater of forceLaughing Mask: comedy, the theater of fraud
DanteTragedy involves violence, so it is a form of forzaComedy often depends on language to be understood, so it is a form of forda.
ExamplesCharlie ChaplinMarx Brothers; they brought anarchy to language and turned the world of logic upside down.
PlotAction PlotPlot of the mind

fireworks

do fireworks look the same from all directions? When they explode, do they explode in a 3-d ball or in a flat round circle?

more on the turkey leg

I made a page devoted to the grand BBQ turkey leg. Check it out at: www.spudart.org/turkeyleg

Fred Flinstone's turkey leg

I've been to the Taste of Chicago every year since 1985. One of my favorites in the past five years has been the huge barbeque turkey leg. A few tips on the devouring the turkey leg.
1) Be the caveman.
2) Devour it. Munch it. Rip it apart.
3) Wear messy clothes. You will get sauce on you.
4) For pete's sake, do not use a fork and knife. This should almost go without saying
5) Get plenty of sauce on your face and hands. It will put you into the mindset of the caveman
6) Do not wipe your face off while eating. Your face will just get messy again in two seconds. Remember, you are playing the part of the caveman. Wear your sauce with great pride.
7) Growl at those who try to eat your turkey leg
8) Have your friends each get a turkey leg. There's nuthin like communal cavemen/cavewomen sitting in a circle ripping apart animal limbs.
9) When finished, walk around a bit and let people see you with your war paint on. Find someone to give a big kiss, if possible
10) Now it's time to return back to civilized society. Walk over to the water fountains and clean your face off. Plain ol' napkins will not do. Just dunk your face into the water.
