mail anything

I was anticipating some doubting for when I was gonna mail this package . So when I went into the post office to mail this item, with a smile I told the postal worker behind the counter, "I would like to mail this item as is, with no envelope. I realize it may not make it to it's destination, but I'd like to try to see if it does."

Gripping the counter waiting for the denying response, I actually got back a reply with a straight face, "Well why not? Of course it'll make it through."

I responded, "now THAT'S the type of response that i like!" Post office: on my good side. She even took great care placing the stamp sticker on and putting clear tape over the address so it wouldn't smear off. The american post office shared its love with me today.

Bush's state of the union

"Yet the course of this nation does not depend on the decisions of others."
This kinda scares me. more of my ranting.

And he said the word "weapons" more than "America", "us" and "we" combined. Check out the top 100 words in his state of the union.

translation

You know those online translator sites that translate stuff into other languages automatically? Of course things get lost in automatic translation, so here's a fun game:

1) Take a phrase in english
2) put it into an online translator like freetranslation.com/.
3) Translate it into another langauge. Say... german.
4) Take the german translation and change it back into english.

Here's an example:
Original English:
"There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered."

Into German, and back into English:
"There is like on a place returning that unchanged remains to find the entrances, that you changed to nothing."

disturbing

Anyone find this sculpture disturbing?
* Not only a ball for the girl's head, but one for the dog too. That's the main thing.
Other weird things:
* The dog is yellow with black dots? A giraffe dog?
* Is it the dog tethered to the tree? Or the girl?
* They are standing in a bath of tree branches

odd awning

I find it odd that corner bakery at Union Station (chicago) would have an awning when it is already under a cover by the building. The awning serves no functional purpose, just ornamental.

a way to get rid of an tv

I had an old crappy tv that nobody wanted anymore, so I put the tv in the alley with this sign

I'd love to see the look the person's face who found it. And espicially when the person takes it and uses it in their home. They will have this neat story to tell.

comical

The thesaurus has "Mickey Mouse" as a synonym for comical. Quite odd considering they don't list any other characters. So if i want to say something is comical, i can say: "That tv show was just so Mickey Mouse!"

start of a trend

The host of the popular Blues Clues childrens's show has left the show and is working on a rock album. I greatly admire how he is able to leave something popular and successful to futher discover himself.

But I wonder if this is a start of a trend.
Start up a children's show with the plan that the host will leave in three years to become an ironic edgey celebrity. It's the ultimate in cool. It's like taking Mr. Rogers and making him into a emo singer. But the only reason for doing the show is to produce this ironic character.

as little as you want

With raisinets I like how you can eat as much as you want. Only want a nibble? Then just take a few. But with a candy bar, it's like you have to eat the whole thing.

This has got to be a metaphor for something, i'm not sure what yet.

donuts vs. doughnuts

* doughnuts have dough. i.e. Dunkin' Donuts (yes, ironic, it should be Dunkin' Doughnuts)
* donuts are those light airy donuts that have no dough. i.e. Krispy Kreme. They are called "donut", because they "Do nuthing".

the

Awhile ago, i pondered what's the name for the | character?
Now, I think there is a "|" conspiracy:
-it has no name
-it has no meaning
-it's even spelled wrong on PC keyboards with the gap in the middle
There's gotta be some coverup on the | character.
Thanks to DaynaGreen214 for the IM conversation that brought this back to life

Joe Lieberman's Dark Side

Joe Lieberman is Darth Sidious (Emperor Paltpatine).

Palpatine was an unassuming yet ambitious Senator in the Galactic Republic.
Liebermann an unassuming yet ambtious Senator in the United States Government.

Palpatine promised to reunite the disaffected, and bring order and justice to the government.
Liebermann promised to reunite the disaffected, and bring order and justice to the government.

Palpatine voted leader of the Republic
Liebermann, will he be voted president of USA? (he recently announced that he's running for prez in 2004)

The new national craze

Electric Pencil Sharpening Clubs
I started the first one here at work. I strongly encourage everyone to start their own chapter.

Here's the pencil sharpening quote of the day: "There's a fine line between a sharp pencil and dull pencil." ~Matt Maldre, 2003.

eagle on the moon

On the back of the Susan B. Anthony dollair coin is an image of a eagle on the moon! Wha-Wha-What? Is this crazy?
1) This eagle does not have a space helmet on to breath.
2) This eagle could not have flown from earth to the moon, it's just too far.

inverted christmas tree

January 7, 2003: It would be easier to hang Christmas ornaments on an upside-down tree, because none of the branches get in the way.
~conversation with John Weistroffer

Wow, three years after this conversation and companies are actually now selling upside-down Christmas trees.

?

Where does the question mark start? From the dot moving up and into the curl? Or from the inside curl moving outward and down into the dot?

tricky soda pop companies

Having to look on the inside label, instead of under the cap, is very tricky by soda companies. It makes the drinker want to drink more fast, "did i win? did i win?".

The compeition for this one is: "Dr. Pepper Win a Spider-mand DVD. 1 of 100 Sony Home Theaters or Thousands of other prizes"
