Bush-Brezhnev Document

After the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, the Brezhnev doctrine of limited sovereignty was formulated proclaiming the right of the Soviet Union to invade satellite states in order to support pro-Moscow „socialist¾ regimes. Now a new Bush-Brezhnev doctrine of limited sovereignty may become the basis of international law. The United States now claims a sovereign right to invade any other country to change a nasty regime, if the president and Congress agree to it.

2-dollar bill

Everyone loves the two-dollar bill. It's always a pleasant surprise to recieve one as change. And the joy of using at the cash register is immeasureable. The U.S. government should issue a new one-dollar bill in 2001, a new two-dollar bill in 2002, a new three-dollar bill in 2003... and so on. Imagine using a seven-dollar bill! From a conversation with: Tom Saaristo, Andrea Goldberg, and Franceska Clark

pills pills pills
caplet, tablet, gel-filled. I'm currently kinda sick, and I had to debate the merits of each one. Is one better than the other? here's my observation (i'm very medically inept) * caplet: hard, usually coated * tablet: powder inside a plastic shell * gel-filled: gel inside a plastic shell but is there any advantage of one over the other?

corn nuts

Don't ever buy Corn Nuts. "Corn Gone Wrong" is their tagline. And that couldn't be more true! It's like eating gravel!

helen keller paraplegic?

The new Alabama state quarter is out now. It's a nice quarter honoring the blind pioneer, Helen Keller. And it's the first circulating coin in the U.S. to contain Braille. But the "Spirit of Courage" banner over Helen Keller's legs make her legs look like they are cut off. It's like she's a paraplegic, espicially with the "Spirt of Courage" on there. I suggest a slight redesign where the banner is simply moved up higher and slightly bigger. Not only will this make it seem like she has some legs, but it will help to visually unify the pine branch on the left and the magnolias on the right.

creative cycles

Some scientists feel we have 90-minute cycles of creativity. Because it's impossible to know where in this cycle you are at any given time, you have work at least that length of time - the longer the better - before you hit your creative stride. For more info on this and how it relates to other areas of life, check out this new page on creativity: www.spudart.org/thoughts/creativity~thought generated by email from co-worker, friend, and copywriting queen, Maureen Quinlan

the city hike

Walking from my apartment in Chicago to Lisa's in Montgomery: Doing one block in three minutes pace (that's not fast, leisurely)... I will cover the 47.90 miles in 19.16 hours. So with some breaks here and there, it will take me two days with about 10 hours each day of walking. I've got one of them big spiral bound book map things of chicago. Y'know with the real detailed stuff. I'm gonna xerox all the pages with my path, and then assemble them, and hang them up on a wall at home. And I could photograph snapshots along the way. It'll be the the "50-mile city hike."

your first name

What words start with your first name? Go to Merriam-Webster and type in your name with an asterick at the end. The asterick will search for words that start with your name. Like, for me, I searched for: matt* Some interesting results: mattoid: a borderline psychopath matthew knot: the only knot named after a person mattole: an Athapaskan people of northwestern California matto: dense tropical American forest; mattamore: a subterranean storehouse
