America 24/7 accepted me into the Illinois book!

Great news!

An America 24/7 rep sent me an email saying that I was accepted into the Illinois book! I'm waiting for her to respond with which photo was accepted. Here's a gallery of the 50 photos I submitted: http://www.spudart.org/photo/america247. At this page, each photo has the actual description that was submitted to the contest.

From May 12-18, 2003, nearly 4,000 professional photographers and tens of thousands of amateurs participated in America 24-7, the watershed event of the new digital photography age. Over one million photos were taken of America in just that one week. The big master volume is now on sale. Fifty seperate books--one for each state--will be published simultaneously in October 2004. I got into the Illinois book.

That was a crazy week. I took over 2,000 photos, it was a lot of fun running around taking photos of EVERYTHING. Since I hadn't heard back from them in such a long time, I had written off getting into the book, so this is certainly a pleasant surprise. Now I wonder which photo got selected...

UPDATE:
Seven photos were selected to appear in the Illinois 24/7 book! SEVEN! I posted the seven photos in a flickr set at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spudart/sets/72157600145636325/

WOW! THAT'S INCREDIBLE!

it'll be interesting to see which one(s) they will put in the book.

My bet is the laughing horse:

Those America 24/7 people really like the "apple pie" human interest photos.

or it could be this dude with the american flag blanket:

I doubt it'll be this one, cuz there's no people in it. But I like it anyways. Those two tulips fit into the skyline well:

i guess they didn't like my school bus depot shots. or my camels in hobby lobby photos.

What says "Illinois" more than a row of camel figurines in Hobby Lobby?

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Jun 28, 04 | 2:31 pm

I agree about the "Apple Pie" comment.

There is something about this guy playing the trumpet with the historic Chicago skyline that is appealing http://www.spudart.org/photo/america247/pages/IL-MPM75-018.htm

It will be interesting to see if they choose one without a person in it http://www.spudart.org/photo/america247/pages/IL-MPM75-026.htm

This one of the guy painting the fence is nice too, but the story behind it might be a little sappy http://www.spudart.org/photo/america247/pages/IL-MPM75-019.htm

Oh that painting fence guy is soooo Americana.

I wish that the trumpet man photo didn't have the buildings coming out the top oh his head. I would rather have had his head more in the empty blue space. And his face is a too dark--not enough detail.

Ha, i seriously doubt that they will pick that el shot. Way too abstract for that book.

Yeah, i love Laughing Horse.

The American flag guy was TOTALLY nuts. He was telling me all about how he hears these voices. These voices. I'm so glad I forgot what he said the voices tell him, because I was afraid that they would haunt my mind too!

But camels in hobby lobby. That was pure Americana Gold. Do you have your photos anywhere online, unlikelymoose?

American Flag guy has a better shot. The one everyone is linking to is kinda far away. You can see the flag, his face, and his money cup better in the close up http://www.spudart.org/photo/america247/pages/IL-MPM75-007.htm

Posted by: Tom on Jun 28, 04 | 3:37 pm

Yeah, he was actually really nice (despite the voices he was hearing). He even took off his sunglasses for me.

congrats matt! what a dope portfolio piece this will be!

but here are my predictions of which photo may have been picked.....ah confucious says....
1. IL-MPM75-010.jpg
2. IL-MPM75-024.jpg
3. IL-MPM75-026.jpg
4. IL-MPM75-047.jpg

can't wait to find out which one was picked....

once again, congrats matt "the professional" photographer!....hahaha

Actually, Matt is a professional photographer! No joke! He has sold me several of his photos!

It's interesting that BOOTLEGGER chose pics without people. I for one would love to see 010.jpeg included. Does inclusion in the book prevent you from selling prints of the pics that were chosen?

rock.
that's great!
congratulations

way to go, matt. your insanity paid off. but no surprise here that they want your photo in their book. you had a slew of killer entries. your dad should be proud.

Posted by: lisa on Jun 28, 04 | 9:27 pm

who are you, bootlegger?

Posted by: laura k. on Jun 28, 04 | 10:40 pm

ah, color photography! i forgot that such a thing existed.

Posted by: laura k. on Jun 28, 04 | 10:41 pm

i'm very interested to hear which one they picked. i bet there will be a human being in it. what's america without americans?

Posted by: laura k. on Jun 28, 04 | 10:42 pm

My vote is for the american flag guy with the cup..although I like the trumpet guy and the photo with the lady and the newspapers...there is something about the tulips..I love the story about the painting flowers....sappy though it may be...and I can certainly appreciate some of the train shots...what kinda of camera did you use?

I was at the bookstore the other day and saw the Illinois book but didn't see you in the index of photographers. Is there more than one Illinois book!?

Posted by: Tom on Feb 19, 05 | 7:52 am

his photos are the smaller ones at the top of some of the pages.

Posted by: laura on Feb 19, 05 | 8:43 am

But shouldn't he still be listed as a contributor somewhere in the credits? I'll have to go back to the bookstore and look more closely. Thanks, Laura!
