some spam makes me smile: Oakley Replicas

Today I got an email with the subject line: Oakley Replicas

Ha! The ol' Oakley sunglasses from high school (circa 1989-1993). Those then "ultra-hip" wraparound sunglasses. They remind me of gold chains, hamma pants and mullets. One day my sister had a friend come in from California, and he wore Oakleys complete with the attitude. She never heard the end of it. Even to this day with this post. "Hey! remember when you had that weird friend come in from California? And he wore those OAKLEYS? HAHAHA!"

So um yeah. To see a spam email trying to sell me not just Oakleys, but REPLICA Oakleys. Too funny.

There is most definitely an Oakley-type of person. Or maybe wearing Oakleys turns you into that type of person. I'm not sure.

I bought some replicas from www.premiumeyewear.com and I'll never buy the real thing again. They're GREAT.

That's just my opinon of course, some people would never do it, or even wear them in the first place from what I just read.. haha.

The Gooooooooogle ad on this page touts the same web site!

Posted by: Tom on Feb 23, 05 | 11:00 am

haha, never noticed that they were over there. I think they were the only one I could find that had a good looking site and answered my questions.

Posted by: Jason on Feb 25, 05 | 11:19 am

Jason, I'd like to see a picture of your oakley replicas with you wearing them.

Posted by: spudart on Feb 26, 05 | 8:54 am

me too

Posted by: Tom on Feb 26, 05 | 8:59 am

Im confused.. they have the pictures on the website? Are they fake?

Posted by: Jason on Feb 26, 05 | 6:58 pm

Oh no Jason. I mean i would like to see a photo of you wearing the Oakley replicas.

Posted by: spudart on Feb 26, 05 | 6:59 pm

I know, but I don't understand why my pair, I have the black monster doys, and they have a picture of them on their site.

Posted by: Jason on Feb 26, 05 | 7:03 pm

can I get in trouble for buying them?

Posted by: Jason on Feb 26, 05 | 7:04 pm

no way, you can't get in trouble for buying them. I just think that it's cool that someone who actually bought a pair of the Oakleys from that same website I posted a link to would actually visit my site and leave a post. It's just really neat that would happen. So I thought it would be fun to have a picture to make the story more complete.

Posted by: spudart on Feb 26, 05 | 7:06 pm

I get it.. you think I work for them or something? My roomate and I were arguing about buying them. He told me I was stupid for getting them, and said that there were probably laws against buying them. I did a search for oakley replicas and this site was on the top. When I clicked on it, I saw the ad on the right side and it caught my interest because that is there I got the ones I have a few months ago.

Posted by: Jason on Feb 26, 05 | 7:29 pm

oh no, i don't think you work for them. I just picture you being a regular dude who bought some oakley replicas. That's what makes this story interesting, because someone who actually bought some sunglasses off that site came to my site and left a post. A photo would add a human element to this story.

Posted by: spudart on Feb 26, 05 | 7:39 pm

haha, when i get one I'll post here again. It probably wont be until the weather gets better and i can actually use them.

i remember Tony Gwynn was the first Major League baseball player to wear Oakleys. The TV announcers were obsessed with it.

Posted by: unlikelymoose on Feb 28, 05 | 9:22 am

From an oakley press release:
When we pioneered our baseball-specific eyewear, we had the help of baseball greats Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken and today we continue to work with several MLB players including Alex Rodriguez, Barry Larkin, Jason Giambi, and Ichiro Suzuki."

I wonder what sort of help Gwynn and Ripken gave them. "uh yeah, can you, like, make them in a shade of blue. I really like blue." Well, actually seriously now, I can see them requesting a specific color shade, let's say red, because it might help them to pick out the ball from the sky. Or maybe from the background of the people in the stands.

What sort of advice do you think Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken gave Oakley?

Posted by: spudart on Feb 28, 05 | 9:56 am

well. Tony Gwynn had a fat face. Maybe he told them that he wanted bigger Oakleys to fit his fat face. That sounds mean. Tony Gwynn was really cool. He's a nice guy. He just has a fat face.

I can't believe they even bothered mentioned Barry Larkin as one of today's players. Didn't he retire last year? **Insert joke about old baseball players here**

Ichiro is cool. I like Ichiro. Ichiro is all cool with his Oakleys.

I don't know why Arod wears oakleys. He has so much money he could start his own sunglasses company and call them Aroddles. They could be made out of pure gold.

Oakleys really shouldn't associate themselves with Giambi unless Oakley plans on making designer Oakley-styled steroid needles.

So, I was also looking into buying some replica Oakleys because Oakley has discontinued their original Eye Jacket line.

I also found premiumeyewear.com but googling their name didn't turn up ANY favorable reviews and indeed, all I could find were two AWFUL ratings from fatwallet

alex, are you looking to get the type that wrap around your face?

Posted by: spudart on Apr 05, 05 | 9:08 pm

I ordered from them and havent heard back. This keeps me from thinking its a scam, but their shipping is ten days late and the ph # my cc company has is disconnected. Im thinking i should dispute the charge?

Posted by: mike on May 05, 05 | 5:11 pm

I ordered 2 pair from premiumeyewear.com 8 days ago. order still shows in progress. No response to 2 emails.
Did you ever receive your sunglasses Mike?

Posted by: leoarticcat on Jun 20, 05 | 7:15 pm

I ordered a pair from premiumeyewear.com too on June 20 and still no sunglasses. I've too emailed them two times and still no response. Does anybody have any suggestions on what we should do?

Posted by: Jason Gallman on Jun 30, 05 | 12:17 pm

placed order with premiumeyewear.com 6/13, received my glasses 6/27. They did not respond to emails.

1 pair was broken [not the free pair lucky enough], emailed customer service and they responded within an hour and did ship a new pair out.

glasses are good quality so I guess worth the wait.

Thats comforting to hear. I hope I have the same luck. Atleast you didn't get ripped off.

I ordered wholesale from PremiumEyewear, I guess i got lucky, All mine were in great shape, within two weeks i had my order. BUT as of Sept 1 2005 they have been shut down by oakley... I got a great new contact though. I am supposed to be getting about 5 doz minute and twenty (XX) in. If ya want some, just let me know. thesunglassexpress@yahoo.com

Posted by: on Sep 07, 05 | 6:01 am

I've bought fake oakleys about 4 times of the net. Getting ready to order another pair. Thats how I found this post. I can't see paying 2-300 for sunglasses, and most of the cheap glasses look like shit. I've always gotten what I ordered a few times they sent a free pair. They are also good for the kids cause they don't take care of their shit.
