by play #11, i was getting kinda annoyed by the song. But now at 13, it's sounding good again. This might be a roller coaster ride!

The setting. Wearing headphone buds in a typical corporate environment at the Tribune Tower in Chicago. There is snow on the ground. So I feel inspired by the song... well, sorta.
It's more challenging to listen to the song over and over with earbuds, instead of just speakers. With speakers it just fades into everything else. But with buds, it invades your head.

While listening to play count 16, I get kinda sad realizing that listening to the song so many times will pretty much make the song no longer a song of the middle 90s for me. But now it will known to me as "the song that i listened to non-stop one day at work." Do i really want to ruin my great memories of Informer from high school?

Play #19, I got a video with sound from a friend, but i'm gonna have to listen to it with Snow in the background. Maybe the video will be about snow, so then it will be nice to have in the background Snow for the snow.

Play #23, with listening to this song over and over again, i feel as though there should be some sort of amazing revelation. Like finding the fine details of the song and how this rhythm matches with that rhythm. But i don't know anything about music. Which is probably a good thing, because for a music expert, this song would probably drive them nuts.

play #24, trying to create a pdf. but having all sorts of problems. I wonder if this song is going magnify my distress over the pdf. Or will this song pacify me. Or maybe it's the song that is making me have problems making this pdf.

play # 27, it has now been a straight two hours of listening to this song (started at 10:52am), and surprisingly, i'm not annoyed. Despite this pdf problem i'm facing.

play #31, i figured out how to get my pdf made. And it's all due to Snow's help. InfooormER. INformER. He likes to change the empahsis on syllables.

play #32, do you think that two hours sounds more impressive than six hours? Six just sounds ridiculous. While two hours seems much more feasible. Like "I listened to Snow's Informer for two hours straight one day" actually sounds for real. Like someone would actually do that. But listenting to it for six hours straight is stupid. Like six hours is me doing it just so i say i did it. While two hours sounds like i just listened to it for that much cuz i really like it.

play #40, i'm started to get very concerned that there might be some subliminal messages in the song. One would think if you listened to just one song that much, that it would become a part of your fabric. But I have no idea what he is singing--and it is concerning--but... i... cannot... stop!

is it like a chant-y song? that's what's buzzing around in my head, in my recollection of this song. not really rap, more dance-y? are you dancing in your chair at work? are you bopping around? i do that unconsciously in the school computer lab, when i'm podding with my iPod.
Posted by: laura-at-school on Jan 06, 05 | 1:12 pm
play #48, i don't know what's more challenging:
A) listening to this song over and over
or
B) sitting my chair for this long
for real. it's harder to sit in a chair for this long rather than listening to the song on repeat.

"But me born an' raise in connecticut"
I like Connecticut better.

Of course, then I would have had to live through it, which would have sucked.
So at least I can still have that song remind me of high school. But I do want to know what number you finished on.
Like maybe #78

I bought "12 inches of Snow" the other day. Walked in to the local music shop and ther it was in the $10.00 bin. Awesome!!! I drove around at work with it in the car (I am a cop) and funnily enough I was more inclined to listen to Informer over and over again than to listen to the rest of the cd. Basically every lyric is the same on about ten differnet (vaguely) sounding tunes. Informer was by far the one I would prefer to destroy my brain to. Good CHoice.

I am a cop and i have no idea what the hell Snow is going on about when he says the cops whipped his pants down and looked up his bottom. What the hell is that about. i have never had to do that and I can't even think of what offence you would be a suspect for just to have that done to you. What the hell....
Posted by: on Feb 05, 05 | 8:50 pm
Grew up in the ghetto...All that talk about being a hardcore gangsta rapper and having all that street cred...yeah right. Have you looked inside the CD cover??There goses any street cred. Sends out hellos to ...his wife, his kids, his mom and dad. What a nice boy!!!!I gotta admit I wish I haddn't got the damn CD. I had that neive young-hearted, innocent nostalgic idea of Snow and for what he stood for - Bad 90's white rap. Now I have gone back there by listening to it over and over again (maybe not all in one sitting like you did, but since I bought it last week I have heard it quite a few times) I now realise he was quite a tool really.

Absolute class on the marathon, if you had a paypal acct I'd donate something for the efforts of "A DAY IN THE SNOW".
And british cops use any excuse to look up an ass. I usually recommend anything between pages 1 and 1000 of the phone book.
Enjoy people!

LOL I'm 26 and Snow VI and all those from the 90's and 80;s are still my Favorite. I have a First Release Snow CD unopened I got in Dayton Ohio when i was there for 2 years in Job Corps. I got another one i listen to while i'm goin places Snows my favorite alongside Sir Mix-A-Lot lol. But hey thats me :) The Snowman rules!
I love this page. I read it and LOL'd all through it. This is great stuff.
I remember when MTV showed the lyrics for INfooorMUH and I sat there like "what the hell is that stuff? why does he talk like that?" But now I know its Jamaican patois and he says he learned it from listening to reggae.
So you should know a lot of Jamaican patois by now.
I was waxing eloquent on the wonders of obscure 80's - 90's music (i.e. slacking at work), when I found this site looking for lyrics.
Liked the song then, it was addictive. So much so the campus news made an editorial cartoon about it.
Never heard of a marathon though. GO SPUDART! Good to see I'm not the only cop that listens. Thanks

heh has anyone ever heard Snow's Anything For You? Well I have it with Snow, Beenie Man and Buju Banton and they are making fun of snow. I had a short marathon of my own with this song. I like to listen to it daily. I have been doing this for like the last 4 days. It is really funny. Buju says he will "defend his potion but not in Snowmotion" and also they say it is a Snownament.
You can get it on limewire by searching for Anything for You by Snow. This could make an excellent followup to A day in the Snow.
lyrics at
http://www.lyricsstyle.com/s/snow/informer.html are incorrect. for example: "When me rockin' the microphone me rock it steady" should be BRING ME THE BUBBLER, THE MICRO, THE PHONE BUT ROCK ON STEADY and even chorus is wrong! where can i find really official lyrics? help!

I too was searching for lyrics and stumbled across this page... it's pretty crazy to think you would torture yourself with constant repeat listening to this song...although, it probably does get close to a hundred listens before you might begin to understand what the hell this guy is saying ! It is amazing that the the song made it all the way here to New Zealand and even got air time on radio, I remember buying the cassette single in the early nineties and how disappointed I was when it got pinched from my car... luckily I have it on my ipod now so can reminisce any time I feel the need... oh, and can anyone tell me what the hell "a licky boom-boom down" means ?
Posted by: kiwimarc on Mar 11, 06 | 5:25 am
I remember Snow. Mainly because he's Canadian (like me). I vaguely recall he spent some time in jail. So if that translates to street cred, there you have it.
If you can't understand the lyrics that's because it's in patois which is what they speak in Jamaica. Sort of a mix of English, French and made up words. I was just in Jamaica and when you hear patois, you can catch the odd word but you never understand the gist of the converstation. Just like "Informer".
I remember being amazed that a white guy could actually sing/rap in patois.

Its 10am Monday morning and Im going to try and do a whole week of just Informer - but I gotta get to lunch time first, my aim is two solid weeks of nothing else on my mp3 player so fingers crossed..
A WHOLE WEEK of informer? wow. That is certainly a challenge. Although the 57 consecutive plays that I did was non-stop-headphones-on-my-head, no taking off of headphones at any time.
If anything, it's hard to be able to devote that much time to not listening to anything or anyone else. No phone interrruptions or people.
But it's also interesting to just have it play on your mp3 player non-stop for a week, even if you do take a potty break now and then.

Hehe, came across your blog whilst oddly searching for some audio recordings of Snow, as I downloaded Informer and it had an intro of him, broadcast on some radio show. He was trying to fit his part, acting all cool, unconvincingly. And at the end of his intro, just when my face was had gone past the point of tingling with imbarassment for him, and was nearing spasm, he uttered the words "Chill ya blood" Great stuff. I simply wanted to hear more from him, as he sounds so entertaining.
I commend your attempt at listening to the song back to back for so long, Spudart, you obviously must be a smoker too.
During your listening, the highlights were when someone posted for the first time, which you were obviously quite pleased about hehe, and the dude that thought the song was about a farmer. Marvellous!
I remember the video to informer well from the 90's. In my opinion, anyone who looks like a white, second year chemistry student shouldn't try to be cool, it just won't work. Lick ya bum bum hehe.

Thanx a lot f. Cute song, though really catchy.got a recommendation how to get rid of a catchy tune: just repeat its words very slowly, and you'll burst into laughing and distract from it. But is is always annoying? I sometimes enjoy singing smth not aloud while doing some dull job:). Or at least just stop experiment and switch to smth else:)Want to compile perfect playlists? I read somewhere that the song was about when his girlfriend was murdered and the authorities picked him up in interrogated him.
Lick your boom boom down means, "you are a candy a$$, and you can kiss mine" Loosely rasta translated.
Supposed to be a follow up song on the LP/CD about it as well.
