Strange stamp cancellation

On the postcard that tom sent to me, he put the stamp sideways which yielded an interesting pattern across this dude's shirt.

It almost looks like he is behind bars, or is wearing a striped shirt. And it's really quite eery how the cancellation line splits his face perfectly in half. You can also download a 1152x870 wallpaper of the stamp scanned in at 2400dpi.

Maybe he got into trouble on his way to you and ended up in prison ... fancy prison with their fancy curvy prison bars :^D

this is why i find cancelled stamps so much cooler than uncancelled. you get a little history of the stamps whereabouts. plus the stamp gets a new look. heh.

What was fun was when the Nixon stamps came out and people purposely manufactured the "behind bars" look. It was fabulously funny. :o)

I doubt the cancellation on the stamp currently on its way to you will garner this much attention ... but we'll see ;^]
