Songs for Grade School/Junior High Graduation

What song did you have to sing for grade school/junior high graduation?

That song "Wind Beneath My Wings" made popular in 1989 by Bette Midler was the official graduation song for my 8th grade class. We had to vote on our class song. I don't recall what it beat out though... probably some nice traditional Lutheran hymn.

The debate between that pop song and a Lutheran hymn caused quite a stir at this nice Christian grade school. All the dippy girls wanted to do that song and they won out (I was all for the nice hymn). Some of the students were afraid that twenty years from then we would be embarrassed that was our class song. It was quite the drama. Now it's just funny that our class had to sing that lame-o song at graduation.

Yea, I think that's a Great song. It was my aunt's song when she passed away 3 years ago. I miss her a lot and that song is one that you can remember for whatever occasion. I hope to use that song this year for my graduation as an 8th grader!

Closing Time by Semisonic is a great grad song---thats the one my jr. high is using. Hope I can help!

<3 Kenzie

Posted by: Kenzie on Apr 05, 06 | 5:47 pm

I can't really see "Closing Time" being THAT fitting for graduation, especially Jr. High since it has to do with the drinking in a bar, closing the bar, and taking someone home ... I can't disagree that it's a great song, I love it, but the message isn't appropriate for graduation.

I'll bet you're glad I'M not your principal, eh Kenzie? LOL!

I am putting together a slide show for a fifth grade continuation and plan on the opening with kindergarten photos (individual and class) to the song" A Whole New World"(from Aladdin) Followed by photos from school events and field trips to "These are the Special Times". Next come staff/student photos to Kenny Rodgers "You've decorated my life" last will be 5th grade photos and a photo of their new middle school to "Break Away". Most of the photos have been scanned. Does any one know of any good software that is easy to use? I need to arrange the photos and mix music so I don't need to play an entire song. I tried photo story # a free download it pretty cool but has 2 glitches 1) you can only start a song at the beginning however you can end it wherever you want 2) I can't figure out how to dump my entire file of pictures into it and with several hundred photos it will take forever to put the pictures in individually.

Posted by: Michelle on May 10, 06 | 2:51 am

Have you tried Photodex's, prowshow gold? It is a great slide show maker, and you can edit your music too

Thanks to all of you. Your suggestions have been ever so helpful in choosing a graduation song for my class. I now have a list of over ten songs for our slide show. As I listen to each of them, I try not to cry. I just know that on my graduation night I will not be able to hold back the tears. And I might have to say a valivictorian speech. Oh dear. I wish I could be of some help with you and your choosing of a graduation song, but all the songs I am using are already on the page! Congradulations and good luck to all the graduates of '06. Graduation at my school will deffinatly be unforgettable with the help of all the people who suggested songs. Once again, thanks you oh so much! I'm not going to be able to stop crying now, oh my. Writting my speech isn't going to be any easyer with mascara runing down my cheeks! For the third and final time thanks you so, so much!

"Color of Love" - Boys II Men
"I'll See You When You Get There" (Clean) - Coolio
"One Love" - Bob Marley

As you can tell we try to incorporate gospel inspirational songs in our graduation as well for we wouldn't have made it that far without the help of God.

I also think that for this year these are good choices:

"Unwritten" - Natasha Bedingfield

I'm Caribbean so we don't use "Pomp & Circumstance" at our graduations, we see it as elegant and classical yet boring.

As I remember other songs i'll inform you guys.

i'm graduating from 8th grade this year too, and i'm class president ,so it's pretty much up to me to find a song that fits our class. one of my friends told me about a song called "this is a suitbale valedictory" by the scene aesthetic. and it really is an awesome song, but, the only place iv'e been able to find it on is youtube. this song might work for you though, since its upbeat.

I'm from a class full of metal heads (27 boys and 8 girls) so we have really no say in music. So i was downloading a song one day and came across The Last Goodbye by Black Lable Society. It isn't the typical screamy headbanging heavy metal, its suprisingly a nice graduation song that made all the boys and most of the girls happy.

Thanks Julio, I could not relate to some of the songs shared because I had never heard of the artist or the song. Our eighth grade graduation will be in a church. Even though all the songs were great I like songs that talk about what I have done and how to handle the things to come. We needed a song for parents, so they can cry, a song for the staff to let them know how much we appreciate them, and a song for us so we can remember each other. You made it so easy. I like kenny Roger's "you decorate my life for staff" too.

3. Eve 6 - Here's to the Night
4. Tim Mcgraw - Please Remember Me
5. Remember Me This Way - From The Movie Casper
6. Faith Hill - There you'll be
7. Michelle Branch - Goodbye to you

* These are just a few! :)

There are so many songs that have been already used for graduation so that it's hard to find an original one. However, a great song that I love is on a Disney World CD, called 'Remember When' by Leanne Rhymes. It has a great message--'every wish, every dream you ever had, just close your eyes; and it will all come rushing back. Fly away, all you need is to believe and remember when.' Hope this helps!

Posted by: ohhemgee on May 22, 07 | 9:25 pm

Mark Harris sings a song called "Find Your Wings" and it's a great song. Here's some of the lyrics...

I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams
And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings

May passion be the wind
That leads you through your days
And may conviction keep you strong
Guide you on your way
May there be many moments
That make your life so sweet
Oh, but more than memories

Really a nice song, especially for the kindergarten group.

: )

Ok, well Photograph by Nickleback isn't really appropriate because for one it's talking about like breaking into your school and not graduating. Yes it does mean remembering good times but it doesn't put out a positive comment.
The Calling-Our Lives is a really good song though.

Also our grad theme may be James Bond so what song would be good for walking down the aisle?

I'm not sure if this was mentioned already or not, but "So long, so long" by Dashboard Confessional is a great graduation song.. maybe more for High School though, I don't know. :0

-"youll be in my heart"- acapella version- from Tarzan
-"what i did for love"- from A Chorus Line
-"for good"-from Wicked
-"seasons of love"- acapella version- from Rent
"everyday"- from high school musical 2
i know hsm2 sounds really stupid, but look at the lyrics:

"Once in a lifetime
means there’s no second chance
so I believe than you and me
should grab it while we can
Make it last forever
and never give it back
It’s our turn, and I’m loving’ where we’re at
Because this moment’s really all we have

CHORUS:
Everyday
of our lives,
wanna find you there, wanna hold on tight
Gonna run
While we’re young
and keep the faith
Everyday
From right now,
gonna use our voices and scream out loud
Take my hand;
together we
will celebrate,
Oh, ev’ryday.

They say that you should follow
and chase down what you dream,
but if you get lost and lose yourself
what does is really mean?
No matter where we’re going,
it starts from where we are.
There’s more to life when we listen to our hearts
and because of you, I’ve got the strength to start

CHORUS

Oh, man, whenever I listen to this song I remember the Beached movie and Barbara Hershey. It is the kind of song you can’t forget. The proof is our post here.

two really good ones are...

Audio Adrenaline: Goodbye Goodbye

the other ones i thought of were already up there. goodluck :))

I am graduating from eighth grade in May. My class has had a few good suggestions as to what song we should sing. We can actually sing two songs. You see, I go to a Catholic School and our graduation takes place in our church. For that ceremony we need a song that talks about God. We can also pick a song that we like that does not mention God in it to sing at the afterwards social/ceremony thing in our school gym. Right now we have suggestions for

Graduation Song by Vitamin C (My personal favorite)
Let it Be by the Beatles (I don't really like that one)
I will remember you by Ryan Cabrera (another really good one)

I will Remember you by Ryan Cabrera will probably only work for eighth grade graduations because the words go "8 years later, time goes by fast" its a really really really good song. Graduation song by Vitamin C is also so good because it talks about good times that your class has shared and what will become of everybody. If you have any more suggestions please email me *Thank You*

well depends, if its a "romantic" dance and you need an older song i would recommend one of the two.. "Shining Star" by The Manhattans or "Games People Play" by Joe South or if you're looking for newer songs i would recommend "High School Wifey" by Thizz Kid or "With You" by Chris Brown or "Follow Me" by Uncle Kracker. If its just just a dance to just dance then i would i would think these songs; ccrank dat by soulja boy, go girl by pitbull, speaker by david banner, kiss kiss by chris brown, low by flo-rida, free bird by lynrd skynard, sweet child o' mine by guns n' roses, you know what it is by TIP, Holla Back Girl by gwen stefani, Rock Star by r.kelly, stay fly by three 6 mafia, and the list goes on. Leave Comments!

"We go together" - Grease. ( This is the song we're using.)

"Were all in this together" -high school musical

"Your a friend in me"
"Summer of 69" - Brian Adams.

"I think "all summer long" - kid rock would be great but it's not that appropriate.

The best ever version of FOREVER YOUNG is Ray Wilson live in Edinburgh. I've used it for three remembrance videos and it has the kind of voice cracking earthiness that makes it seem customized for the photos it accompanies.

I think a good song (Even if its kind of littlieish) for an 8th grade graduation is I'll Always Remember You by Hannah Montana. It's not as serious as High school graduation, but at the same time, so many people are going to different high schools and it's just so sad! I'm gonna cry when i sing it.

Found this thread looking for K-garten photo show songs. Thanks for all the ideas, here is my list.

We're going to be friends - Jack Johnson
The Friendship Song - Carbon Leaf
Jump Up - Dan Zane
Smile Smile Smile - Dan Zane
Send Me (On My Way) - Rusted Root
Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts
The Sharing Song - Jack Johnson
You've got a Friend in Me - Randy Newman

I wanted songs the kids wouldn't be bored with and likely to recognize. Did you see what I did there... (they're mostly from kids movies).
