socks with sandals

So many people in the United States are so against wearing sandals with socks. Well, I like to think that I wear socks, but then i wear sandals with it. Better explanation:
* Sandals with socks: The decision is to wear sandals first. Then it's like, "oh i'll wear socks with that." Typical situation: Going out shopping or in general public.
* Socks with sandals: This decision here starts with merely wearing socks at home, and then you have to quick run outside to throw away the trash. Sandals are a perfect fit for this situation, but why take off your socks?

I'm all for socks with sandals. It's kinda nice that it's really dorky to have such a combination. Dorkiness is cool. I don't care what the Miller Lite commericial tells me.

Somebody has to be dorky, otherwise there would be no such thing.

Quite honestly, I don't have the self-esteem to be a dork. I would love to be able to wear socks with sandals, but I would be really self-conscious about it. Dorkiness IS cool ... too cool for me

this thought is crying out for a photo or two as documentation.

I concur!

i got sandals on my head, but don't call me a sandalhead!

Posted by: unlikelymoose.com on Sep 15, 05 | 11:58 am

So, where's the photo? :|
Sandals with socks acceptance, IMHO, depends upon the color (and condition!) of the socks. Dark sandals require dark socks, light sandals, light colored socks. Matching colors whenever possible.
Gosh, I sound like a snob! :oÞ
Do sandal & sock wearing persons do so to hide poor toenail hygiene?
Anybody see the latest trend among the hip & beautiful salesgirls of the currently hip and beautiful mall clothing stores? (think Abercrombie) They wear leg warmers with flip-flops.

Personally I never wear socks with sandals.

It's my attempt to avoid the "farmer foot" look. We have all seen the people at the pool who have glorious leg tans that turn into pasty blinding white skin at their ankles. It is ironic that by using socks so much these people look like they are still wearing socks even when they are not.

permanent socks!
that would rock
got any in stock?

Posted by: spudart on Sep 16, 05 | 2:21 pm

Something tells me we're never going to see Spud in sandals with socks and Spud in sandals without socks

Posted by: Tom on Sep 16, 05 | 3:02 pm

Heyyy, I'm quite proud of my all-over pasty blinding white skin. :o|
(I don't tan)
Spuddly, have you considered tattooed socks?
Tattoos are art, right? ;)

Posted by: Jody on Sep 16, 05 | 11:15 pm

Mmmm -- IMO, pasty all over is attractive (and more healthy than a tan). Pale skinned ladies are yummy, like marshmallow.

I used to wear socks with sandals to school :D but that was when my mum dressed me. Now, I just don't wear socks. Ugg boots are the way to go in DILIGAF footwear.

Posted by: Rowdy on Sep 16, 05 | 11:29 pm

Come to think of it, I dont own sandals.

did I miss a whole trend cycle again? :/

Posted by: Rowdy on Sep 16, 05 | 11:34 pm

I had to look up with DILIGAF means. 8-F It's: "Do I Look Like I Give A Flip"

It's simple! Sandals are more comfortable WITH socks because your feet don't rub directly on the soles.
I say BAAH to all the fashion "sheep" out there who can't think for themselves. They just do what they are told because it's IN.

Yeah John B! I'd rather have my feet IN socks rather than me being IN.

Sandals are comfortable, the learn your foot's needs and become old friends. You can kick them off easily, particularly efficient if you want to take a quick power nap. Walking along the beach, holding your sandals is just one of those iconic representations of freedom. Wearing socks is simply an extension of this freedom, extending our sandal-wearing into colder weather. Yes, it is less comfortable, and yes, it inhibits our beach walking, but no, a little cold weather is not enough to keep me away from my sandals.

If it's good enough for Prada it's good enough for me.

Has anyone tried Birkenstock Madrid sandals? They are mega-cool and look great with or without socks.
You can buy them in men's sizes but, for the larger sizes, they have to be ordered specially.
They are kind of similar to the old Scholls sandals but much more comfortable and more modern. Try a pair!

I personally have nothing against socks with sandal but I wouldn't wear this combination ether because I would risk having all eyes on me when I get out of the house. I guess there are reliable options, I can't complain about offers or diverse combinations for clothing items. Designers know better and we should listen their advises.

Fabrica's comment (Jan 13, 2008) is bang on! Try living in Canada...wearing socks with my sandals allows me to continue this foot comfort nine months of the year...much to my families chagrin. Comfort is the fashion. Boldly go. BB Ontario, Canada

Colm, you are not alone. Lots of blokes (predominantly Brits) do it and with a variety of styles and colours. Go to www.sandalandsoxer.co.uk and take a look at literally hundreds of soxer.

Then get your camera out and send a pic in of your own (hey why not send 2) ?

You could make Soxer of the week or even come the end of the year when we run our competition Soxer of the Year !

nonce or what

Sandals are great for the room and freedom they give to feet and toes, compared to shoes.

Socks are a good add-on to protect your feet from friction and dirt, and to keep them warmer.

But even in hot climates I usually wear socks with my sandals because it seems too informal to show my feet at work. With my dark sandals and black socks I feel almost as formal as with my shoes.
