I case you're wondering where I came up with this list. I was laying in bed thinking about how the word "euro" sounded funny. I realized that it has three vowels in it. This list came from looking in the dictionary for all the words that start with two vowels. So I looked up the words that start with aa, ae, ai, ao, au, ea, ee, ei, eo, eu, ia, ie, ii, io, iu, oa, oe, oi, oo, ou, ua, ue, ui, uo, and uu.

are there any words that have just consonants and no vowels? TV is not considered a word by Scrabble®.

As far as I know [and remember from 9th grade English] there are no words in English that have no vowels, except invented words and abbreviations [like nth or Mrs.]

HM expressing thought (hmm)
MM expressing satisfaction
SH used to urge silence (shh)
These three are 'words' according to some scrabble site I found.
Has anyone every heard this word?
PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS
This is the longest word in any english dictionary. I wonder if that would fit on a scrabble board?
Posted by: Andy on Jan 26, 06 | 10:39 am
not only would it not fit on a scrabble board, there also would not be enough 0's available to make it. silly neen.

Your scrabble prowess is quite
evident.
Here is a tidbit that might come in handy... the word 'CWM' is an acceptable scrabble word that has no vowels.

The word "idea" has just 1 consonant and 3 vowels. Also, "Rhythm" is a word with no actual Vowels, that is, (a,e,i,o,u).
Posted by: Neil on Mar 25, 06 | 8:03 am
Hi,
If you were looking for words not containing any actual vowels(a,e,i,o,u), why can't we consider the word "why" itself?
I need 4 letter words having no vowels.
As many as you can.
Thanks

check out my book ' Alien winds'
it contains some fine specimens with vowel restrictions. example lipograms,
bivocalics,univocalics etc.
here is an example of three vowel prose
each word contains only 3 vowels a,i,e
nearing terrestrial America
Freakish elliptcial machines terminate massive raider satellites, shattering
alien barriers.
Wow Tony, that has to be one of the most unique uses of the a, i, and e vowels.

Myth and hymn are two four letter words
using the unofficial vowel 'y'
there are only about 50 to 100 word's containing only 'y' vowel
I wrote a poem in 1999 containing most of the ideal data.
here it is:
Sky myth
Fly by rhythym my nymphs
Slyphs try my sky hymn
fly,fly try my tryst
try my dry myrrh ,by thy crypt
Sylphs shyly cry ,why myrrh
Why fly by crypt?

erm, ive got an absolute beauty :
the name 'atreiou' contains all five vowels, in the right order and is an awesome sounding name...
'a-trey-oo'
it's the name of the boy plainsmen warrior in the film never ending story - i used it as a gamin name for years until i recently realised that fact about the voewls which was awesome cos i've always loved the name on so many levels and then to realise something as unique and meaningful as that only made it all the more amazing....
p.s. - how many people do u know who know that? even scrabble players...?
