Transformers Monopoly board game: collector's edition

Transformers Monopoly board game: collector's edition is going to be available in May 2007. I wonder how they ranked the transformers. Obviously Optimus Prime and Megatron would be Park Place and Boardwalk. But where would Soundwave rank on the board? Even though Bumblebee should have a lower value property, I betcha they put him as one of those green properties.

I just hope they feature the G1 Transformers. The cover of the gamebox certainly implies that. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the gameboard was centered around the character designs from the 07 movie.

Parker Brothers is going to have a serious problem on their hands if Optimus and Megatron aren't Boardwalk and Park Ave.

I could see them making Bumblebee a yellow property cuz he's yellow.

I wonder if they will group certain properties by class of transformers. For example all the red could be the decepticon airplanes.

I eagerly await the arrival of this boardgame. It'll be great fun to see who is what property.

Oh good point on grouping categories of transformers together. I was initially thinking it would just be scattered and random. But the dinobots could be like the purple area. And the insecticons would be the light blue arera.

Or you might be right if they might do it by color. Ironhide would be on red. But making Sunstreaker yellow would be disappointing, because that's one of the more valuable properties and Sunstreaker is not that big of a character.

Another thing. Do you think they will represent the transformers on the board by their robot mode or vehicle mode? I bet they will mix it up. Some will be in vehicle, some will be robot. That will be disappointing, because it's too random. I'd rather see them all in robot mode.

Who would they put on the railroad properties? My first thought was Astrotrain. But he's only one. They'll probably do a grouping like the constructicons--even though there are five constructicons.

I see an Amazon.com Wish List addition in your future.

ha! That's right Tom. I would add it to my amazon.com wish list if they offered this product on their site. A search for transformers monopoly does not yield anything yet.

i'd also prefer to see them in robot mode. But they will probably mix it up and make it inconsistent. If they put this board design in the hands of a really creative designer, I bet they could have a really tripped out board.

I have a feeling there won't be any rhyme or reason to who is what property. So the railroads will just be a random collection. If it were up to me, I would have Soundwave's cassettes as the railroads. They were always unique unto themselves as the railroad properties are in Monopoly. Constructicons would be good too. I'm just a big fan of Soundwave.

Having worked for a licensing department, I can tell you what will probably happen. Both Transformers and Monopoly are owned by Hasbro. However they are in completely different parts of the company--which essentially makes it like two different companies working together. The transformers people will send a bunch of artwork to the Monopoly people (which are in the Parker Brothers division). The Monopoly people will lay out the board game much like all their other Monopoly games. They won't break out and do anything too funky, because they don't want to "hurt the brand." Oh dear, the world would end if the "brand got hurt." So you'll end up with someone who has no idea about Transformers laying out the board. Then the board design will get sent to the Transformers people will a bunch of changes. Then the Monopoly people will think the Transformers people are crazy for all their changes. But really the Transformers people are just trying to make the game as cool as possible for us true Transformer fans. So Monopoly people will give the Transformer people a hard time and only implement some of their changes. Thus resulting in a half-a55-thought-out gameboard.

Now I could be totally wrong. Perhaps there will be a hard core transformer fan that works for Parker Brothers. Or maybe since Transformers and Monopoly are owned by the same mother company, it will end up rocking the house. Let's hope so.

You never know who is reading these posts...I worked on the game. I'm a huge fan and tried to merge the Transformers Universe and Monopoly in the most creative way to best represent the two Brands. There are no elements from the new movie. Based entirely on the Cartoons and Comics. We went back and forth and decided on locations for the properties over characters. Monopoly is a real estate trading game after all. However I think you will be very pleased with the Chance and Chest Cards (Autobot and Decepticon Cards). Each features a character and the Directive (Text) is hidden by a similar pattern that the old G1 toys had on the back of the packaging for the characters abilities. The Game comes with a decoder (like the red strip in the old toys) For reading the directive which will correlate with the character featured on the card. The Tokens look fantastic as well. There are also some alternate rules of game play that will be based on which Token you choose (autobot or decepticon) I think the fans will be pleased with the game. And just to let everyone know, the Four Corners are not allowed to be manipulated, therefore they are the same as the classic game. It's a legal thing...should be in stores soon!

Hey Guys! Glad to see you are so excited about the limited edition Transformers Monopoly game. The game is in high demand because of the up and coming movie. I know some people are having a hard time finding this edition on your typical toy store shelf. To reduce the hassle of going to your local toy store and searching for the game, just visit the website 80sTees.com. They also sell some great Monopoly t-shirts. Heres the link for anyone who is interested: http://search.80stees.com/?q=monopoly
Hope you all enjoy!

Having seen and played this game, I can say with confidence that you'll LOVE it whether you're a passing fan or a long term fanboy/girl. The properties are well placed (Cybertron and Earth holding the highest place) and the game tokens are well detailed. Me and some friends spent over 5 hours playing one night and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. A must have for a serious Transformers fan

Joolz! Thanks for that review! You got me very excited about playing this game now!

I wish that the houses and hotels were not renamed energon cubes and anti-matter. That one last detail prevents me from calling this the perfect "customized" monopoly. I was really pleased to see traffic cones and Al's toy barn in the Disney second edition of Pixar monopoly. Looney Toons had a blue box version that had movie reels and theaters instead of regular houses and hotels..just makes the game super nice.

This product was bought partially as a collector's item, partially as a conversation piece, and partially as a playable board game. Everything is here from the mini game piece figurines, to the transformers-themed play cards, and energon money.
