What is the official word for "earthquake cracks?"

Earthquake hits! Cracks form in the ground! What are those cracks called? And it's not the "fault line." The fault line is the plates underground and stuff. I'm talkin' about right on the surface of the ground. Those cracks. I've tried searching earthquake crack on One look reverse dictionary and the dictionary.com reverse dictionary. But nothing.

The earthquake cracks just gotta have a name. What is it?

I see dead people

I mean, I hear voices in my head ... but in a good way

Seems to me they are simply called "cracks", e.g. "Crack(s) in the earth's surface caused by the earthquake were 2 miles long". or "A crack closest to the fault line was 3 meters across".

I can't recall hearing any other word to describe the crack(s).

I can't find anything, other than "crack", so.. I'm going to have to jump on board with Tom - I think they're just called cracks. Cracks caused by an earthquake.

I've checked NOAA and the NGDC at NOAA as well as Wikipedia and a site on the history of earthquakes in Japan which included a glossary of effects from earthquakes. They all refer to the cracks on the earth's surface as "cracks". There are cracks below the earth's surface that have another name, and there are other names for different types of land shifts, but near as I can tell from my research, the actual crack is a crack.

Thanks for your research, Tom! It looks like this naming isn't cracked up to what it should be.

haha! You so fun-knee!

Now that we've solved that, why don't you use your superior cleverness to come up with a name!

WOW! FISSURES IS THE ANSWER! I'M AMAZED! THAT'S THE ANSWER! RIGHT THERE!
Here's google's definitions of fissure. I feel like i'm having a brain fissure with all this knowledge.

*Technically* your brain CAN get a fissure, Spudz! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fissure

So I have a fissure in my chin when I smile? Interesting. Is that proof that I live in L.A.?
