Highest scoring word on Scrabble: SINGHIOZZEREBBE, 2118 points

Facebook's Scrabble application, Scrabulous keeps track of the highest scoring words ever. The number one word: SINGHIOZZEREBBE, scoring 2118 points. It runs the ENTIRE length of the board touching on THREE triple letter squares. WOW.

According to wiktionary SINGHIOZZEREBBE means: "Third-person singular conditional tense of singhiozzare." Singhiozzare means "to sob." Yeah, if my opponent dropped that word down, I'd be sobbing too! The only thing I don't get is that this word is ITALIAN. What? You can't play Italian words. Hrmmm.

I like how the url for this blog post is 4567. Consecutive numbers. The numbers roll along just like these monster words.

See, this is why I'm not a huge fan of Scrabble. Those who consistently win at the game as those who know English words that no one ever, ever uses. So it kinda becomes an elist game. "I know a word you don't know. I'm better than you."

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy playing Scrabble. And it is nice that you can learn new words that you can use throughout your non-Scrabble life. It was a great help when my Grandma was learning English. But when you play against someone who purposely learns words that no one ever uses in non-Scrabble life; then it becomes annoying.

With that said, it is neat seeing the highest scoring word ever. It's so completely over-the-top crazy. It reminds me of the NFL Draft.

Your turn.

How can you play that? There are not two Z's in the game, and both blanks are used elsewhere on that board.

ok first of all there are 2 Z's 5 C's and 5 M's. 2nd there is no way those words can be made by playing an opponent. the guys name is ON THE BOARD. he was playing by himself and didnt challenge anything.

If you notice (from the actual link on facebook) the game is in Italian so that is why he was able to play those. It is also a regular game so that means that you can't play a word that isn't correct... props to this guy.

Yes, the game is in Italian, and yes, all the words were valid (in Italian), but the game was not a regular competitive game between two people. Marco Pagano (notice his signature on the board) has constructed this game (=sequence of moves by two players) specifically for the challenge of obtaining the highest possible score for one of them. By playing both sides, you can repeatedly swap tiles until you get exactly the ones you want.

Scrabulous is not "Facebook's Scrabble Application." The Indians who run Scrabulous are stealing from the creators and makers of Scrabble, not paying them one dollar or any Indian currency either.

Well, I just want to say that I read most of a book called "Word Freak" that detailed the history of Scrabble. From that I believe that the creator of the game is debated, but definitely dead, and that Hasboro has the rights and is tight-fisted with them is one of the reasons why Scrabble players don't feel they get the respect of chess players (which is not a trademarked game). So I'm not too upset about Scrabulous "stealing" the game. Hasboro is taking the invention of a game by someone long gone and trying to suck every penny out of it, when it's just a game that should be enjoyed by everyone!
