The Illinois State Capital is a cool-looking building

Who knew that Springfield, Illinois had such a cool building? I like how the dome is stretched taller. And that silver color. Very cool. (I encountered this discovery from a photo on a chicagoist post about the state worker rally).

Have you never been to Springfield? There isn't a lot to do [Lincoln's home, a Frank Lloyd Wright House (Dana Thomas House)] and only one restaurant I can recommend. I'd still call it a decent day trip, despite the commute there and back.

Oddly enough, as a lifelong resident of Illinois I don't think I've ever been to the Capitol building. I have, however, been to the Wisconsin Capitol building in Madison. Boy, is that pretty!

Oh wait! I believe we visited Springfield in 3rd grade or something, and I'm sure we got a tour of the Capitol building then. I don't remember it as vividly as the one in Madison though.... *shrugs*
