Oprah group dance on Michigan Avenue has inspiration in previous YouTube viral video

The crowd at the Oprah taping in Chicago did a special dance to the Black-Eyed Peas live performance of the song, "I Gotta Feeling."

Here's my video of the choreographed dance recorded from the Tribune Tower's 14th floor.

As the crowd was doing this dance to "It's gonna be", it struck me how similar it is to video that went viral a few months ago, "Sasquatch music festival 2009 - Guy starts dance party." In this video one guy is dancing and then eventually a few people join, then the whole crowd joins. I love this video for its spontaneity and fun. Makes you wonder if the choreographers found inspiration in this video and applied the same idea to their dance.

Youtube user awayaday recorded a video that gives insight into the complexity of the choreography behind the dance at the Oprah show.

I loved that Sasquatch video! I saw that sometime before. It makes me smile! At first you're thinking "what a dork!" and I think the first couple people were just mocking him, but then you can't help grinning as everyone joins in!

Hey Matt,

I stumbled onto this video on youtube and saw that it was uploaded by none other than THE SPUDART!

Is that how loud the music was from the Tribune tower? Were the windows open?

I thought it was more like the one in Europe from the train station - you know the one with Julie Andrews singing?

The only thing that bothers me is seeing oprah's face and act as though this is something real and not a planned event.. i enjoy the video where this kind of thing happens spontaniously.. when i first saw the video i thought it was cool but something wasn't right about how well the people knew the routines and how in sync they all were.. it just had the same kinda stink that someone standing up at a televised presidential town hall meeting does.. there's enough amazing things in life that we don't need people trying to fool us..

i think BOUNCE started some of this too with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVJVRywgmYM&feature=related though the video with the guy who started the dance was very cool too :)

"spontaneity"? check out if T-mobile ain't behind the event. Any event where "spontaneous" flash mob dance occurs has T-mobile as sponsor. They're doing it all over the globe.
Check out how "spontaneous" this looks too...

nothing but a brilliant marketing technique associating their brand to good "spontaneous" vibes... :)

I think you'll find there's a dance sequence in 'The Fisher King' (Robin Williams - A Terry gilliam film, I think.)
Where the commuters all waltz. The film's about 15 years old.
don't care if these stunts are adverts - I enjoy them.
