Fun out of office message for email

Here's my away message for my email today at work:

I'm out of the office Friday July 13. Did you know that it's National Embrace Your Geekness Day. It's true! I'm not just a geek telling you this! Well, I am a geek telling you this, but c'mon, we all have a little big (or alot) of geek in us. I just hope you enjoy all 86,400 seconds of Embrace Your Geekness Day. While you're at it, why don't you reply to this email and let me know a way that you are a geek.

Oh, and work stuff. I'm returning back on Monday July 16. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Todd at 312-xxx-xxxx, xxx@tribune.com.

Friday the 14th are geek days! Wouldn't it be fun if every friday the XXth was a certain something? Ok let's unofficially declare it.

Friday the 13th: Bad luck
Friday the 14th: Geek day
Wait. I want to research numbers first to find the most über geek number for this. This will be a blog post for the future!

I'm taking off every monday and tuesday for the rest of th year. This blog post will have my away messages that I use for every week.
============
I'm out of the office Monday, November 12 and Tuesday, November 13. Tuesday is the official World Kindness Day.

Side note: November 13, 1967 is the day NL owners OK’ed AL expansion to Seattle and Kansas City. Baseball has never been the same (said sarcastically). Oh that was not too kind, was it?

Oh, and work stuff. I'm returning back on Wednesday, November 14. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Todd at 312-222-xxxx, xxxxx@tribune.com

Here's an out of office I used earlier this year:
===============
I will be out of the office Wednesday, June 20 to Friday, June 22.

On Friday, June 22, 1942 Congress officially recognized the Pledge of Allegiance. So find yourself a flag and say the following:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Speaking of flags, what is the highest flying American flag in Chicago? I think it's Tribune Tower. http://www.spudart.org/blogs/randomthoughts_comments/2994_0_3_0_C/

I will be returning back to the office Monday, June 25, 2007.

I'm out of the office Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20. Monday is 733,000th day since January 1, 0001. Seven hundred thirty-three thousand days. That’s a lot. 733,000 pennies would weigh 2.29 tons. But then check this out: http://www.kokogiak.com/megapenny/six.asp That’s a million pennies. Doesn’t look like much, eh?

Oh, and work stuff. I'm returning back on Wednesday, November 21. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Todd at 312-222-xxxx, xxxxx@tribune.com

I'm out of the office Monday, May 5th through Wednesday, May 7th. I'm returning back on Thursday, May 8th.

On May 8, 1886 Pharmacist John Styth Pemberton invents a carbonated beverage that would later be named "Coca-Cola". Then exactly 47 years later on May 8, 1933 Mohandas Gandhi begins a 21-day fast in protest of British oppression in India. Coincedence? I think not.

I'm out of the office Friday, November 20, returning back on Monday, November 23.

Did you know that on this date in 1805, Beethoven’s only opera premiered in Vienna? From wikipedia: “The success of these performances was greatly hindered by the fact that Vienna was under French military occupation, and most of the audience were French military officers.” Well at least someone got to enjoy it. Now you can enjoy it too! Take a listen to short sample at http://bit.ly/nov20beethoven While you enjoy the music, I’ll enjoy the day off. I hope you have a great Friday.

Happy Estonian Independence Day!

While the official Estonian Independence Day is February 18, 1918; those pesky Russians came back and occupied Estonia a third time from 1944 until August 20, 1991.

On this day 19 years ago, Estonia was able to maintain constant operation and control of its telecommunications facilities, thereby offering the West a clear view into the latest Soviet Union coup developments and serving as a conduit for swift Western support and recognition of Estonia's declaration of independence on August 20, 1991.

Oh and work stuff. I'm out of the office on Friday August 20, 2010. I'll be back Monday August 23. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Jan xxxxxxxxx at xxx-xxx-xxx, xxxxxxxxxx@tribune.com

I'm out of the office Friday, December 2, returning back on Monday, December 6.

Did you know? December 3 is National Roof Over Your Head Day. I'm betting that where ever you are right now, you have a roof over your head. That is, unless if you are outside checking email on your phone (and if you are, I hope you're not in Chicago, because it's cold outside! Go back inside and check your email.) But I'm not joking that this is a true holiday. Here's a webpage that explains it:

While you sit there with a roof over your head, if you need immediate assistance, please contact Jan xxxxxxxxx at xxx-xxx-xxx, xxxxxxxxxx@tribune.com

I'm out of the office starting Friday, December 17th, returning back on Monday, December 27th.

Did you know that the tradition of the Christmas tree was started by Estonia? In the 15th and 16th century on the last night of celebrations, they would set up a tree in the Town Hall Square, they would sing and dance around the tree; and then set the tree aflame.

Now I don't recommend you set your tree on fire, but I do recommend you participate in a Maldre family tradition of Christmas tree throwing. This year when you bring your tree to the street curb, stand a good 30 footlongs from the curb and see how far you can throw your tree to the curb. Measure your distance with your feet. My brother and I have not recorded our footlong distances, but will do so this year.

Oh, i fixed the footer so it looks more like a christmas tree that was thrown onto the sidewalk:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
(that artwork is supposed to be a tree thrown through the air and lying by the curb)

I'm out of the office Friday July 15. Did you know that it's National Gummi Worm Day? It's true! To celebrate this day, I'm at Wrigley Field with a bucket of gummi worms. Why gummi worms at Wrigley Field, you ask. Well, the Cubs are playing the Marlins! I'm gonna use the gummi worms as bait to catch some marlins!

Oh, and work stuff. I'm returning back on Monday July 18 with a taxidermy mounted marlin. If you need immediate assistance, please contact Jan at 312-xxx-xxxx, xxx@tribune.com
