I have been wearing a scarf around my face for the past two weeks. I also have noticed that no one around my office building wears a scarf.
I wear a scarf for the same reasons. It keeps me warm. I used to have the mentality that I can brave the brutal Chicago winters. But as I age, I am siding with the perspective of maximum comfort. A scarf allows for that. It's amazing how much more comfortable I am outside when wearing a scarf and ear muff things even when it's 30 degrees. More people should join in the comfort. Plus, I park at the far end our parking lot (to avoid door dings). So it's essential for me to bundle up.
And I like the spy aspect of wearing a disguising scarf over my face.
I think alot of people in the burbs don't wear a scarf over their face because most people have a long commute and the scarf would make them too hot while driving. I only have an 8 minute commute, so I just wear my scarf while I'm driving.
chicagotribune.com had a poll on whether men should wear scarves or not [I know, totally stupid!] ... fortunately the majority was for the scarf.

Wow, what an odd poll. I never ever thought of scarves not being for men. Here's an english proverb. "Man without scarf in cold is cold."

i saw that poll. I think the trib wrote an article prior to the poll saying that men shouldn't wear scarves. I'm guessing there was such a public outcry that the Trib decided to go to the public and take a poll.
I was at the post office yesterday and the Postal Clerk lady complemented my scarf. She mentioned the Trib poll. I told her that I wear a scarf cuz it's freakin' cold out there.
nice english proverb. They should put that on billboards.
sadly, many American men think scarfs to be unmanly. though i found while in europe they are quite commonplace

Men who think scarfs are unmanly are just unsmart.

Hey guys,
I like wearing a scarf too over my face when it is cold, although it hasn't been cold here in the UK often this year, perhaps a couple of times.
Scarves are worrn my many guys, it is common here in England.
By the way, I like Spudart and Unlikelymoose blogs.
Hope to create one soon.

I visited England in April 2003. I absolutely loved it. I'm glad to hear you're a fan. I look forward to your blog.
I'm not surprised that scarves are common for guys oversees. It's another example why the Brits are smarter than most people in the States.
whoops. i meant to spell "overseas", not "oversees"
I wear a scarf, but I am a lady, so a man wearing a scarf makes sence to me. My 4 boys all wear one to school on very cold days. We all have Black scarves that go with anything. The boys are all hoosiers. (you are manly for freezing to death?nope, just stupid!!!)

I love wearing a scarf around my face. I live in New York where it's really cold in the winter. I have found it fun to wear year round though. U might think im crazy, but I love it!

A poll on whether scarves are manly? Sheesh, is this 1960? Like, when men went out in twenty degree weather in fedoras and thin topcoats? Christ, the wanky things we Yanks think up. My scarf goes over my face when it hits 40, and stays there, thank you very much, and I only pity the poor deluded fools running around with naked, red, snot-dripping visages. Kurt.

That made me laugh! I'm an American, living in London for four years. Therefore, this is my fourth winter, and I just don't get it why English blokes wear scarfs in the office. Every time I see it, like today, I do a search on the web about it. I just scratch and shake my head. They look like right idiots. Also, they walk around London wearing a suit and no jacket, but you guessed it, a scarf wrapped around their neck 22 times, tight as can be. I caught my American friend, living in London, also; and that is correct he had a scarf wrapped around his neck and it was 50 degress out (F). I made him it take it off, and I told him you aren't a wanker, you are from Iowa.

does your scarf come with a secret agent camera?

May I just point out that it is exceedingly hip right now for men to don scarves as accessories. Typically you can find this trend among 20-somethings. I've been seeing it a lot in the last several months and had to come back to this post and make mention. Who knows, spud, maybe your attempt to stay covered and warm in 6 degree temps also started a trend!

oh yeah tom, those are more like hanky scarves. With all the little frill on them. heh. Funny, the scarf i'm donning in this photo from 2007 is much more utilitarian.
Vera, this particular scarf does not come with a secret agent camera. But it does come with some mad ninja skillz.

The funny thing about the "hanky scarves" trend is that you typically see a guy wearing more than one, layering them for full-on accessory effect!

Oh weally! Guys like to layer the scarves. I'll have to keep that in mind. The past couple years I've been layering my tshirts. It's fun.

I always wear a thick soft cosy Mohair scarf around my face whenever the temperature drops below 10 celcius !
I ride a motorcycle all day, so I need to stay exra warm !
Mohair is beautiful, and it never freezes when it gets damp from your breath, unlike normal wool!
I also get lots of great comments from women saying how Cosy n Snug I look !!
