SPUDART! You are totally ignoring the history of language!
We did, in fact, START speaking in only two letter words. The problem is that we quickly ran out of letter/sound combinations, so we needed to use multiple words one after another to explain other concepts and ideas - much like we do now when forming sentences. After awhile, the most common sentence fragments just got bastardized into being single words.
As the amount of information available to us continues to increase, we too will be forced further down that path. The Germans have already gotten a HUGE head start on us. They have seen the future of language!
