* Gruß
* Grüße
Prolly only useful with german speakers, but I use the first one now and then.

Posted by: david on Sep 24, 05 | 11:04 pm

You could use the german expression "Gruss" in an english version. Because the german "Gruss" sounds very much like the english "Bruce", I suggest:
* Gruce

Posted by: Christian on Sep 28, 05 | 1:03 am

* Sliante (Scots Gaelic)

I just want to say that this is the most useful page on the 'net for me right now, and I'm thrilled it's here. Thank you so much for making this!

Now, should I add something before I leave? Yeah, I suppose that would only be fair.

* Hope all is well,

Hey guys, thanks for all your help, i was jus lukin for good salutations when i came across this on Google. Anyway, no-one's said:

* Keep your stick on the ice.

In hockey it is the first thing your taught to do while playing the game.

Red green (Darren McEwen) adoped the phrase and made it his own salutation in 'the red green show'.

Its probably not a very good salutation if you have to explain it, but for people know the meaning/reasoning its great.

Posted by: nick on Nov 11, 05 | 7:17 pm

Steve smith, not darren mcewen. I was mistaken.

Posted by: nick on Nov 11, 05 | 7:20 pm

Red Green! That rules! And yes, Steve Smith plays Red Green.

I think anyone who's even heard of hockey would understand "keep your stick on the ice". I'm going to start using that.

Can we talk about the use of the word ‘Best’ as a closing line in current correspondence? It seems to be the latest trend. But it leaves me annoyed and not eager to try. What the hell does it mean? Best. Best WHAT? Best intentions, Best wishes, Best Buddy, Best Dressed or Best Bowel movement? It’s so utterly cool that it carries no warmth. It’s not about wishing the other person the best of anything but rather an embarrassing attempt by the writer to include themselves in some phantom ‘it’ crowd. It doesn’t even look smart on paper or email. In fact it looks incomplete and as if the writer could not think of anything more intelligent to write. My advice is to return to the old but trusted ‘Sincerely’ until something worthy of its replacement comes along. After all, you are either cool or you are trying to be cool.
