You don't have to carry an umbrella in when it snows, but people do. There are also people, though very few, that don't carry umbrellas when it rains.

Sometimes when it's snowing really hard wet snow, I wish I had an umbrella.

i have a theory. the air is warmer when it snows than when it doesn't snow. this is because all the coldness is concentrated in the snowflakes, making the air itself milder.

in NYC they use umbrellas in the snow. i have witnessed this firsthand. they do this much more so than Chicagoans. i wonder why?
