i was at the game yesterday - extra innings, but they finally won. and that 70s-degree thing only lasted until mid-afternoon. it got cold out there. cold and exciting at the same time! i had some Old Style.

Hi Len and Bob~
As my mom and I were watching the game today, we heard you talk about the word 'prevaricate.' My mom learned a rhyme with the word when she was younger and taught it to me, and it has stuck with both of us!
If you insinuate that I prevaricate, Iíll horizontalize your perpendicular.
in other words....if you imply that I lie, I'll knock you over!

Could you please tell me more about
DELWARE MUD !
Thanks to Vince Scully it was the first time I eever heard of it., and needless to say I'm intrigued. Has this been done since the beginning of baseball? all teams? all balls? Why Delaware Mud?
It makes me wonder what else my husband has been keeping from me...

But I will happily say hi to your grandpa Bob Adams.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOB ADAMS from his grandkids Tiffany, Michelle, Bobby, and Patti.

I feel that Dusty Baker makes alot of wrong moves at the wrong time that cost the Cubs alot of games. The team needs Patterson back in the line up for more power!!!!!!!

In lieu of all the talk of suspended games due to weather, I have a question. If a game is suspended and say made up 10 days later a la Greg Maddux's 1st career K, how does the roster work. Would a guy be able to play if he were called up to the minors after the game was originally suspended, or would you just lose that roster spot if a player who was originally on the roster was sent down?

Do you think that getting matt lawton is the answer to the cubs making the playoffs

I am a HUGE CUBS FAN & I am watching the game right now against the Phillies and I'm not happy with Mark Prior's performance in the bottom of the 2nd, he could've struck out Rollins. I was wondering what he was thinking? I could've struck him out. Is Prior 100% or not. By the way, I would like to say hi to my cousin Richie Wells who is watching the game at home in Elmwood Park, Il.
Sincerely,

Cubs rule, you look at them you just drool.Sox think they're cool, this ain't true.Cubs legacy will never die they haven't won a World Series since 1905 but this is the year 2005.After they beat you you'll start to cry, this is the Cubs, they dominate, humiliate, teams try to duplicate just can't imitate. You can't beat the Cubs, can't you see, listen close, you'll hear strike 3.A cub is a Chicago hero, when if it's Sox vs. Cubs,Cubs win 100 to zero. We'll beat you in the 1st inning leave you on the sideline sitting!
P.S. I email you this by pressing send,
World's best annoncers are Bob & Len!
dusty baker needs to be fired and they need to get a manager that pisses FIRE!!! this crap is enough already with these lame outs, bunting needlessly!! DUSTY HERES YOUR PINK SLIP!!!!

What is wrong with the cubs? It seems like the hitting coach isnt even helping D. Lee, and Aramis Ramirez. And is it true that Dusty Baker will be with the Cubs for a while? The Cubs are a very popular team but kids in my school dont even like them anymore because of how bad they are doing.
The Cubs need to add some great pitchers and power hitters, and just give it up till next year!
Right on, Jermaine!

Hi Len and Bob,
I think you guys do a great job. I especially like the comments you make about various players and teams and their stats. It gives the game more color.
Anyway, my question is; If a pitcher pitches nine innings in a game that goes 10 innings or more, is he considered to have pitched a COMPLETE game?
You guys are doing a great job this year. My dad, who is 88 years young, it a great Cubs fan, as am Il My question is as I understand it, when a player is walked, it does not count as an at bat. Then why, when a batter is walked with the bases loaded and a run scores, is it considered to be an RBI for that batter who was walked? Could you please read this question on the air? thanks a bunch. Keep up the great work!
Please send me an answer by e-mail to this address. If a pitcher pitches 9 inninings in a game that goes 10 or more innings, is he considered to have pitched a complete game?
Keep up the good work.
Thanx, Albert Gronewald
hi i like the cubs i have for a long time i want to no why the cubs always go for homeruns when they get bases loaded they should take there time and try for base hits they get runs in to and they kneed to get the players off the team who dont want to play there make i trade
There are 7 of us watching the game ..and we listen to the game to get insight into the game..we dont care about the vendor you keep showing selling cub stuff, home remedies for sore throats ..we want to hear your thoughts on the team..its been a horrible year, the team has truly been a disspointment..lets talk about what the team needs..dont be so vanilla thats why your reception here is lukewarm..
we expect more from the announcers than just telling us that ball his hard to see when it comes into the shade...come on guys get some backbone..i know Dusty is your friend but what bhas he done for this team.....
We have been told you know the game..so give us some real insight...

Hi Bob and Len,
I was very fortunate to be able to attend a ball game last Saturday. It was something that my son and I have been planning for almost two years now. I have relatives in Chicago area that have been working on tickets for a long time for us. Last year it was very difficult because of how the team was doing. This year it has been a little easier to get tickets, but our schedule just had not worked out. When we showed up for the 3:05 game my son was looking forward to batting practice and the chance to maybe meet a few of the players. To our surprise it was already in the fourth inning. We di not get to see batting practice or the chance to meet any of the players. The experience was still fun for my son. Just going to Wrigley is an adventure. We stayed after to see the players in their parking area. We were able to see many of them but not talk to them. My son is a huge fan and can tell me about all of the trades, who is playing for who, how the triple crown race is going, etc. He is a great kid and loves baseball. He is nine and I think it is great for him to see some of our players as heros. He has several favorite players, but was really hoping to meet Derek Lee. I was hoping that maybe we could get to another ball game yet this year to do so. I will have to see how that goes. My long winded question is, would it be possible for you to see if you could get anything autographed for him from him? Four hours is a long way to drive to see a half of a game. I wish there would have been a way for us to find out earlier. We were in Chicago several hours earlier and could have made it if we would have known. I know things change and times change, but we were not in the minority on this one. we walked in with lots of others that did not know.
Thank you for any help you may be able to give and keep up the great job.

Hi Guys, from the winter home of the Cubbies. It is so nice to see all of the minor leagers "up!" As a fan of the minors it truely is a treat! I can't wait for the expanded roster and hope to see Adam Greenberg back! My daughter and I are his biggest fans outside of his family!
Hey, will Kerry Wood be doing his rehab down here when he's able?? I snagged Nomars autograph on a day when he and the trainer and I were the only people at Fitch!! Wish I'd had my camera!! Actually went looking for Adam Greenberg and found Nomar.....I'm NOT a Nomar fan and hope we get rid of him..........ALSO we need to really get rid of Patterson HE SUCKS and has since spring training. I am a long time Cub fan, now 53, and will die a Cub fan, bleeding Cubbie blue to the end!!
Please say HI to the Mesa Cub Nation on the next WGN telecast......I remember when WGN had a Cubs game on EVERY day!!!! Also, please say Hi to myself and my daughter.....Elizabeth, born and raised a Cub fan from day one. Carole and Elizabeth Ray from Mesa......we love you guys and support the Cubbies through thick and thin!!!! GO CUBS!!!!!!!!

Hi again, reading past emails......what a bunck of numb-nuts.....have no idea what it is to be a TRUE Cub fan. I don't believe in the "suffering Cubs fan," their neuveau.......that's why you can't get a seat a Wrigley anymore......it's to COOL these days....I remember walking up to the ticket window and sitting behind home plate or on the 1st base line.....having a couple of beers and enjoying a nice day at Wrigley....win or lose..........saw them all......Williams, Banks, Davis, Sutcliff, Cey, Dawson, Smith, Sandberg, Grace, and on and on.........how sad to see the winners only crownd get involved......breaks my heart.....as i said I raised a Cubs fan not a jump on the bandwagon fan and there is more of them out there then we care to know.........watching the game today, from Mesa, I saw all of the empty seats and thought........yup!!! If they're winning we're on board, if not who cares. Too bad, Love again from the winter home of the CUBS........Please speak about the minors on the next telecast.....my daughter and I have funnies about Ronnie Cedeno, Scott McLain, (that's a good one!!), Sergio Meitre, Matt Murton, Roberto Novoa, Jermaine Van Burien and his sticking his tongue out at my daughter........get to be a real fan, get to know the minors and the players of the future.......it's truely a blast.......Well, hope to hear from you on the next WGN telecast.....Mesa loves their Cubbies!!!

Greetings from Franklin, Indiana !
Am currently watching the Cubs as is my Mom in Seymour, Indiana. She was born on the north side and moved to the south side as a kid but still remains an avid avid Cubs fan. We have a question . . . who picks or decides who does the "conducting" for the seventh inning stretch. Do you guys have any input? Mom and I would suggest possibly Jose Cardinal or Mark Grace.
You guys are doing a terrific job this year ! We're tickled you are in the booth and hope you stay for years to come.
Thanks,

Hello there from the southwest side of chi-town, unfortunately from sox neighborhood, my name is jose echevarria and i'm a huge die-hard cubs fan let me put it this way, I live and die breathing cubs. As of this precise moment i am so dissapointed with my team that it makes me want to piuke just watching how they are playing. I mean cmon now what is dusty thinking here, doesn't want to utilize juan pierre's excellent skills as a lead off hitter, isn't playing small ball in other words we can't win without D.LEE thats the message we cub fans are receiving from our team, Aramis Ramirez is showing signs of imaturity by not being the leader that the team desperately needs he of all players need to jump start this offense because the cubs can score lots of runs and cause lots of misery to their opponents, also Jacque Jones seems to be lost at wrigley seems that he's still shocked of being a cub that probably what he dreamed of as a child, well get over it JONES and instead of swinging for the fences and trying to spell SAMMY SOSA in one at bat, just make contact with a level swing and the fences will come to him. M. Barett needs to go back to spring training to practice on how to block a passed ball, wild pitch, Murton is doing fine, Cedeno is also doing fine , TODD WALKER NEEDS TO GO BACK TO SECOND and J Mabry has to be the first baseman until LEE comes back. The pitching staff of G. Maddux, S. Marshall are doing fine CARLOS ZAMBRANO hopefully with the performance he had against the giants is a sign that everything is going to be well with him, I'm pleased to know that K.Wood is coming back on thursday 5-18-06 and hopefully he'll have an explosive outing in his 06 debut to get things going in the right direction Rusch needs to wake up or get demoted to Iowa. Prior and Wade need to hurry-up and jump into the rotation the bullpen is doing a good job. To conclude Please Dusty wake yourself up because who is going to wake the team if your still asleep, have J. Pierre bunt his way on at the start of every game on the next pitch have him steal or have Walker sacrafice pierre to second and have the sluggers that follow bring him home . lets start winning, winning, winning, and forget the disable list players for now , as we have players that can play small ball if dusty decides to smell the coffee.
Hey Hey Cubs are gonna win today!!! Can you guys say hi to my Dad Bob Meserole ? He has been a cub fan since 1949! My daughter is at tonites game in the bleachers.(Kelli)

I know this won't be printed so for what it's worth...
With Nomar hitting 375, think what the cubs would have with Corey, Nomar and Moises. Just maybe it wasn't their fault like maybe the cubs don't have a hitting instructor?
How about dumping our batting coach... and the pitching coach... and the toothpick as their his pick right?
Get rid of Hendry while you're at it and throw in the McFAIL for tolorating all this. Who once said, "a team at the bottom has problems at the top".
... but as long as idiot fans fill the park, why fix what ain't broke right? it unfortunately is a business and even though they play poorley, the fans still buy the product. Wish we could operate our business like that. As a life long cub fan, I'm convinced there'e no hope.
My one and only suggestion would be to start over with STONY.

Life long fan of the Cubs and GODZILLA! My 9 year old girl Delaney is nuts about that lizard
Godzilla battled some of the following;
Mothra
Gidrorah (3 headed)
Rodan (the flying one)
Baragon
Angurius
Mecha Godzilla 1 through 3
Destroyah
Gigan
Jet Jaguar
Espega (the spider)
Megaguirus
Megalon
The sea monster (giant lobster)
Mogera
Orga
Space Godzilla
They made the last movie in 2004
"Final Wars"
They recreated him in the 90's
where he became just mean and nasty
the effects are far better and he's actually dies in one movie only to be replaced by his /her son
Never really explains how he reproduces)
We will be at the cubs versus Atlanta series in September 9th
You guys are doing a great job.
Delaney says she trade you a
"Godzilla autograph for Derrick Lee's
(just kidding)
1 more thing Godzilla did fight King Kong. My daughter was amazedthat he almost got beaten by a "stinkin' monkey"
They said he's retired
Posted by: Frank Witbrod on Jun 11, 06 | 1:43 pm
Godzilla also battled the
Smog Monster. aka Hedora.
question:
When Soriano was at bat, you commented on how he crowded the plate to the point that he was over the strike zone, which leads me to ask, What happens if a batter is hit by a pitch that is actually a strike, but the batter is in the strike zone?
thank you

Do you think the Giants Armanda Benitez (Closer) Makes the Ninth innings more interestingly nail biting than your days with the Giants as the closer.........
As I lived in the bay area and a Giants fan. You were enjoyable to watch as a closer.

Bob or Len,
I would like you to ask my question on TV like you always do, because I really want to know the answer of the question just like some other people. If a pitcher has a perfect game going, and the batter hits the ball, and he gets a double, but misses first base and gets called out on the appeal, would the perfect game still be in task?
Sincerely,

Hi Len @ Bob
My husband is the biggest fan of the "CUBBIES". So much so that our 18 month little girl knows when the cubs are on the tv just by the sound from the tv. When she heres you guys, no matter what room shes in she comes running hollering "baseball" cubbies. When I was pregnant with her my husband said if it was a boy we were going to name him Clark Addison but it ended up being a girl so we named her Addison to keep the cubbie
legacy in the family. I was wondering if you could tell her daddy happy birthday (9-23) on Sunday 17th's game? From Addison @ Jade. Thank you so much if you would.
Hi Len @ Bob
I would like to first start out by saying my heart goes out to the Lee family, Roush family and the team. Stay in there Cubbies.......now I would like to share this with you, my husband is such a big cubbies fan that when I was pregnant for our 18 month little girl, he said if it was a boy we were going to name him Clark Addison. Turned out to be a girl and we named her Addison to keep the cubs legacy in the family.
So could you tell her daddy Jesse happy birthday (9-23) from Addison, Jade and Nick Thank you so much

Len and Bob,
First of all let me start off by saying that I think both of you are much better looking than Pat and Ron (thought I would suck up to get this read on the air). My question is, have the Cubs ever considered using David Aardsma as a starting pitcher? I think he has done an outstanding job this year.

I work a barber shop in Henderson, NV. I'm a CUBBIES fan and my co-worker Mike is a St.Louis fan. We always watch when on WGN. I always tease Mike that he is "closet cubs fan". I'm from Aurora Il., and grew up watching with my grandparents. We'll be watching tomorrow 9/29/06 and would be fun if you gave us a shout out.
Thanks, always and forever a CUBBIE fan,

Hi Bob and Len. Please, I have been trying since the 3rd inning to find your email address to ask if you would PLEASE,PLEASE
have the cameras "pan" in on aisle 26,row 3,seats 1&2. That is my son,Cory and his girlfreind,Kaley. She bought them tickets to the last ballgame for his b-day which was 9/28 - he was 20 but two sets of parents would just be THRILLED to SEE they are well and fine driving to Chicago from West Des Moines!!!!!
Also, I have a sister-in-law and nephew who also is at the game. She said they are sitting right behind Murton in the back bleachers(she's a little tighter with her money!!!! ha). May I be so greedy as to ask you to have the camera pan there also??
Thank you so much for a hard year to keep an upbeat attitude but you have done it well and right now we are AHEAD.
I sure wish I was there!!! Thank you and gob bless you both.

Life-long Die Hard Cubs fan! Could you guys please announce this during SUNDAY's game for me? The whole family is watching!
On April 20th, 2007, a gorgeous 6 lb, 11 oz baby girl was born in Kankakee, IL.
She was named "ADDISON HOPE PARCELL", after Daddy's life-long favorites, the Chicago Cubbies!

To Len and Bob,
My aunt Hanna turned 38 today and she has been a Cubs fan 25 years. I
wanted to ask if you just announce on air. That would really make her
happy. Our whole family love the Cubbies and hope for a win tonight. Go
Cubbies!!
Best Regards,

Who is the best announcer out there? In my opinion, it is definitely Len Kasper. He is the best in terms of description and how he calls the game. He should be working at ESPN, that is how good he is. He has to be one of the best announcers of all time.

I don't know why everyone gets so excited about Roger Clemens coming back every year. WHile everyone is debating whether or not the team he is on will make the playoffs he, Roger, has once again eluded any questions about why he joins teams so late in the season. IT IS BECAUSE HE CAN'T PITCH AN ENTIRE SEASON. It really makes me mad!!!! He is still a good pitcher, but he is not some savior that can walk in so late in the season and not answer to why he is just an "ad-junct" member of a team. Bob/Len hook me up guys!!

Lou Pinella is cool, but you know more about baseball and I think you would do a better job as a manager for the Cubs. Why does Lou keep playing Cezar? he is terrible! Ryan Theriot should play everyday. Of course just as I said that Cezar hit a double to to give the Cubs the lead, 5-4 in the 8th inning.

ARE THE CUBS PLAYING TO WIN?
I'm watching the game today and in a 0-0 game, following a lead-off single in the top of the 3rd by K. Hill (Batting 8th), Izturis came up and did not bunt with Soriano on deck. Instead, he hit a lazy fly to left, not advaning the runner, and Soriano followed with a single that COULD have scored Hill, but instead the Cubs did not score. As bad as they have been this year in close games, why are they not trying to manufacturer runs? The squeeze play yesterday was great, but they need to take advantage of EVERY run possibility each game. And please don't tell me anything about playing on the road...a run is a run and a win is a win. I have been a Cub fan since 1969 (Born in 1964) and I'm getting tired of these situations over and over. What is the answer??

Two quik questions.
What ever became of Chip Carray?
What's with all the broken bats? Someone's going to get seriously injured or killed out there! Many moons ago we didn't see all the breaking bats that we see today. I heard it started many years ago when they began importing bats made of inferior material.

Hey Len and Bob,
I just wanted to with my grandma Kordowski a happy belated 79th birthday. When I was in town from Washington D.C. two weeks ago we went to Wrigley to see the Cubs close the series against the Reds and it's always good to make it back to "Cubs Park". Even though we can't watch every game together, everytime the cubs are on WGN we get both get to watch, her from Lisle IL, and me from Arlington Virginia. She's a faithful cubs fan and her only wish was that my grandpa K could have made it to the game with us. We both think you guys are great and really make the games enjoyable to watch... much more fun that those "good guys" on the south side.
Lets hope Soriano keeps hitting like this, and no will ever question that Carlos wants to win!

But she has a problem, her friends in FL. do not believe her when she tells them that many years ago the Cubs had a record of Hey, Hey Holy Mackeral. If you could find it and play part on the air or just verify that there is such a record she would be so greatful. Thanks--Carol

Well I am glad to hear about them, I am a big fan of those two announcers. Actually avoiding words like "us" and "our" when referring to Chicago Cubs is quite a good communication strategy. They repeat the team name as much as they can to create a specific resonance and make us react when hearing it.

Is Ronny Cedeno related to Cesar Cedeno?
Posted by: Brenda Johnson on Mar 31, 08 | 4:57 pm
What is wrong with Aramis Ranirez? Last season in the playoffs it appeared that he didn't want any part of it, as if he didn't want to be there at all. His body language this season doesn't look like he us any more enthused about playing than he did last fall. Also, I have seen this MANY times htroughout the years. Say the Cubs are in the field, the other team has bags loaded, one or no outs. The other team hits a ground ball to short or 3rd. The Cubs almost always through to 2nd, then first, sometimes conceding the run for the 2 outs. However, why dodn't they do (whenever possible) throw to home and get the lead runner? Even if the throw to first is late, at least they prevented a run. Why give up a run if its not necessary? I know that not every situation allows time to throw home, but they seem to ignore that runner on 3rd. Please adivse. Thanks!

Len & Bob: At first I didn't know if you were the best choices to do commentary for the Cubs. But now I think you guys do an excellent job. I enjoy listening to you and hope you'll be around for years to come. Looking forward to more Cubs games. If other people don't like listening to you, they can watch something else. Have a great day.

Im suppose to be at the game right now but had a stupid final to take so I had to sell my tickets but anyway...just had a fun idea after hearing the espn announcers doing there best impressions of harry. Why dont the cubs have a contest to see who can sing the 7th inning stretch in harrys voice the best and have the guest conduct a game this summer as a tribute to harry! GO CUBS!
could you please wish jim belpidio a very happy 90th birthday(may 6th) he is awonderful father, husband and friend. he's been a cub fan,a snappy dresser and all around good guy all his life.on behalf of his family and many friends.thanks a bunch.

Hi Len and Bob I Heard Mark Grace is there today .We had the great pleasure of meeting his mother, Sharon, as we tailgated in Mesa AZ. We spend the winters there. She was a wonderful lady and shared a hot dog with her. We are back in IL for the summer and are still great cubs fans no matter what state we're in. What a great mother !!that must be why she has such a great son!!! GOOD LUCK GRACE FAMILY..

The 7th inning stretch is always done by a celebrity, why not play a recording of Harry himself for a 7th inning. The phrase "Let's get some runs!" might be a great motivation.

We moved to Winnemucca, Nevada 20 years ago and were suprised at all the Cub fans in this town. A couple of weeks ago when I was in the beauty shop I found out why. In the 50s and 60s the only games folks here could get on a regular basis was WGN's Cubs baseball and everyone in town followed them religously. Now the next generations are following and the Cubs are by far the favorite baseball team. Thanks WGN because we were Cubs fans before we moved here and it's great to have so many of us here in Winnemucca.

Our mother Evelyn Miers has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and due to her illness is unable to work causing her bills to escalte. Our family has been loyal Cubs fans for a great many years. We are really hoping maybe that you can help us. We are having a fundraiser benefit for her on June 28th from 5p.m. to 11p.m. And we were hoping to maybe get an autographed baseball by the cubs or maybe an autographed bat to try and help raise money to help her. All you can do we would appreciate. Thank you and God Bless for your support.

You guys are great! I'm a born and raised cubbies fan and today happens to be my birthday and was wndering if you get this in time to say it on the air. I turned 20 years old. My question for you guys, or really to Bob, is who was the hardest pitcher you have ever caught? Not necessarly how fast, but with the most movement? Thanks alot guys! You do a fantastic job!
A new Cubs fan has been born.
Bennett Harold Baumann was born June 14th at 10:23pm to the greatest of Cub fans, Chris and Jessica Baumann.

Hey Len and Bob,
I would like to know if there has been any talk about the Cubs going after C.C. Sabathia. I believe that we could sure use him. I also think that if the Cubs did get him that we would have a great chance at winning the world series this year! And ya'll know just as well as I do, that we are WAY past due for that!

Hi guys you do a great job day in and day out. I'm watching cubs vs. the sox and unfortunately I have to watch to the national telecast. My question is they showed an old clip of a cub walk off homerun. The stadium was going crazy ,The camera was bouncing. I have noticed this in many recent memories. Untill this day when something big happens the camera or the entire stadium shakes. Just looking for any comments on if that stadium is really bouncing that much. It intreages me because I am in the trades. Take care Go cubs!

Hey guys, a friend of mine who was a die hard Cubs fan was hit by a drunk driver Sat. night as he was crossing a street on foot, and he passed away from his many injuries. I know that you get a lot of people asking you to air things, but it would mean so much to his family and MANY friends to hear you mention his name at the game Sunday against the Sox. I ask for Sundays game because Friday and Saturday we will all be at the wake and funeral. Nate Lopez was only 29 yrs. old and a cub fan for as long as I can remember. You guys are great. For Nate Lopez, Go Cubs!!

Is there any truth about the Cubs possibley trading for C.C. Sabathia or A.J. Burnett? What are the possibities that a team would sign Barry Bonds for the playoffs? I mean who better to DH?
Why doesn't Ron Santo and his radio trade positions with use every once in a while to do the game on televison? A lot of us Cub fans can't get the game on the radio. I've always wanted to hear Ronnie call a game. How about if the Cubs make the World Series Santo gets that chance? We got a deal?
Bryan, having ron santo call a game on tv would be great! I'd imagine WGN doesn't do that, because once people get a taste of Ron on tv, they wouldn't want him to leave!

On July 4th, a huge Cub fan passed away. The funeral for Harry Schares of Gilbertville, IA, was on Monday, July 7th. For the recessional, the choir sang, "Take Me Out to The Ballgame"; the priest said Harry must have been watching down on Sean Marshall on July 6th. I thought this was pretty neat. Now there are two Harry's watching over the Cubs. Just thought you might enjoy this.

baseball is for yuppy puppies and old folk.particuarly if you follow the cubs.i will never go to that antiquated place they call wrigley field again.the prices for lousy food is outrageous.there is no parking close by,unless you pay a fortune.the park smells and the restrooms are small and outdated.
the team this year has been fortunate.lots of home games...lets see what happens in the stretch run???their ss(theriot)will fade, edmonds will get injured,as will sorry-ano..derosa will revert to his old self and will finish the the season in a slump(.242).the pitching will fade also with harden going on the dl and dempster coming back to earth and tiring badly in the second half.marquis will do his usual swan dive, yet it appears the scurbs,oh sorry i mean the cubs may just edge out the brewers anyway..all in all, a usual boring season. i can't wait until the "real" sports come back again.
by the way bob ,you forget that you are on tv....its not necessary to flap your gums every second of the game...give it a rest.

Regarding our sports announcers. Where are they? I mean OUR announcers, I mean broadcasters that live and breathe a Cubs win in their calling from beginning to end? We lost that. Instead now we have half hearted, almost forced excitement by Len Casper and Bob Brenly. They often ask how the other team can get out of tight spots, they call the game almost as if auditioning for a national spotlight. Where is the love? Look, bottom line is this, Len and Bob, you will have great careers I'm sure. But we would all love to see some guys in the booth who bleed the Cubs, who are on the edge of their seat, salivating a Cubs win. Do you not see the fan base that Harry Caray, Jack Brickhouse, Steve Stone, these guys that REALLY REALLY Love the Cubs. It's hard to feel the love in Len and Bob's voices for the Cubbies.
Posted by: Poslusny on Aug 18, 08 | 10:17 pm
P.S. Is this still a blog, or have you become Len and Bob's answering service?
Posted by: Poslusny on Aug 18, 08 | 10:28 pm
Poslusny! Finally someone who is posting to the original post of this blog. Most people think this is Len and Bob's blog (and if you read the previous comments, you'll see that people make requests to say "hi" to so-and-so on the air) Hence my repeated responses where people can contact Len and Bob at their email address.
I think Len and Bob have come a long way since they started broadcasting for the Cubs in 2005. In a way, I'm glad they are not TOTALLY over the top for the Cubs. We have Ron Santo for that.
And honestly, I can't listen to the radio too much, because it wears on my nerves a bit. I love Ron a lot, but whenever the Cubs do something bad, I don't always need someone cussing under their breath. With Ron you get the full range of emotions, and he will always be a classic and a true legend at Wrigley.
So it gets back to the point of your comment, Poslusny... can Len and Bob be more pro-Cub? I do get the feeling of what you are saying, but I also wonder if it's the context within we view them. That they have only been in the booth 3 years. That Bob has loyaties to other teams as a player and a World Series champion manager, and a broadcaster from another network. But putting those contexts aside, I think Len and Bob do quite a good job at being pro-Cub now.
And to really put this in context, at least we don't have Joe Carter and Chip Caray in the booth.

In August of 1969, my buddy Tom Healy and I were 16 year old kids who had the good fortune to be in the left-field bleachers at Wrigley when Ken Holtzman no-hit the Braves.
Last week, Tom -- now a prominent Chicago-area attorney -- and his son Cal were at Miller Park for Carlos Zambrano's no-hitter.
So Tom has been present for two of the Cubs' three last no-hitters! What were the odds? And shouldn't we make sure that Tom has tickets to the playoffs?!

It is time to send this entire team except pitchers to the Triple A level and bring the Triple A players up. If they are going to give us Triple A type play then let Triple A players play, who knows maybe they want to win or at least look like a ball team. Who ever the brains were behind getting rid of DeRosa, Marquis and Woods should be FIRED! This team (using the word team loosely) STINKS!!!

You know how to pronounce the "a" in Soriano. You should pronounce ALL "a's" in Spanish EXACTLY the same way!! There is NO "a" as in "apple" sound in Spanish. They are ALWAYS prounced "ah" as in Soriano. Think of that when you say "Vasquez" or any other player's name with an "a" in it. PLEASE! The Spanish language, unlike English, is very, very consistent. The vowels are ALWAYS pronounced the same. Duh!

I've got an idea on how to get our baserunners to practice picking up the pace and running hard. Give each of them a Gatorade shirt and Zambrano a bat and have big Z chase around the bases. LOL. If that don't work nothing will.
Please wish Tony Beaber a Happy 60th Birthday August 11, 2009 during the Cubs game tomorrow. Thank you very much
Would you please wish my dad a happy 77th birthday tomorrow during the game. He is very ill and in the hospital.

Hi Len and Bob. My mom and grandpa are die hard Cubs fans. Unfortunately we lost my grandpa last year right before my mom's 50th birthday. So I was wondering if you could please wish Kathy a happy 51st birthday from her Dad, Mom, and her kids Kaitlyn and Nick at the game on August 25th which happens to be her birthday. This would mean the world to her since I also can't be with her on her birthday because I had to leave for school.

I do appreciate the time and effort.
Bob, Ken:
Why wasn't Theriot bunting in the 8th inning tonight (9/16) with runners on first and second and nobody out? Seemed like a great chance to put runners in scoring position with the heart of the lineup coming up.

People keep talking about the length of a game and the slow pace. Why not make a rule that the batter has to keep at least one foot in the batter's box between pitches? That would probably take 15 minutes off the game. That ruoe exist in youth baseball, why not MLB?

Hi Len & Bob, Was at the Cubs game on July 15th against Phillies,(which we won). During practice, Alfonso Soriano threw a ball to our granddaughter at her 1st Cubs game. We were sitting in the bleachers,we were told to get Sorianos signature, but instead, we got the"Bleacher Bums" signatures from our surrounding seats, who are more famous than any of the past & present players. The ball will be treasured for our 7y/o 's lifetime. Thanks again for all the great memories, been a fan since 1964. I am a Bridgeport born Cubs fan. Thanks to all the "Bleacher Bums", as we live in Tampa,FL now. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks, Dave Higens

I am watching the game and am baffled that they are letting the red sox let a pitcher with short sleeves and a white shirt pitch. The ball blends into the shirt. When I played fast pitch softball they made me change my shirt because they said the ball blended into the shirt. Don't they have rules for this in major league baseball?

your triva ? on June 7 has a second answer. Yes, all 5 men's first name is George. All 5 were also Cincinnati Reds. See if my memory is correct. I believe Babe Ruth was a Red for one day or part of a day.
Why in the *&^( did Tom Ricketts say that Quade is doing a fine job?? I am a die hard fan that lost a friend leaving a game. He was hit by the L. I literaly am a die hard fan. I am so frustrated I may not watch another game this year. Horrible, no other way to describe the coaching this yr. Hendry can go with Quade. The sooner, the better. Pena? We could of had Berkman for less. Ramirez in the 4 spot for how long batting under .200? It just made it more difficult to hear Cubs head honcho say that Quade and Hendry are doing a fine job and they have nothing to worry about. Soriano will be back after going 1 for 13 in triple A?? He sounds more than ready. Is there any positive at this point in the season? Why is it so painfully hard to be a cubs fan?
Posted by: Chad Fisher on Jun 16, 11 | 8:42 am
Hey Bob and Len, I'm a diehard Cardinal fan...That will never change...However, when it comes to enjoying a first-class broadcast team, you guys are the goods!!!Best of luck except well, you know!
Len and Bob, you usually see the issue very well, but you are missing the point on the All-Star game. Plus I have a good suggestion about the All-Star game.
You are correct that the record of the Leagues against each other for the season is a better way to decide home field advantage for the World Series. However, the reason for the current rule is to make sure that the All-Star game is competitive. MLB was concerned that the fans were losing interest in the All-Star game and with good reason because there were some games that were not competitive and the new importance of the game has changed that. MLB solved a problem and good for them. Let it be.
The following rule should be changed in the All-Star game. Allow players to return to the game after they have been removed from the game. This way every player can get into the game and the manager does not need to be concerned about running out of players. There is only one All-Star game a year and each player should get to play. This might be the only time that the player gets on the All-Star team his entire career and he should get to play. Also, the fans should see all the All-Stars play.
What is wrong with allowing a player to return to the game? This works well for basketball, hockey, football, etc.
Thanks,
Rudy S

Hey, Len, you mentioned that the W logo of the Washington Nationals reminds Bob of his pharmacy. It did me, too, until I noticed that the lead in of the Nationals W starts lower and is curlier than the one for Walgreens.

Todd, take a breath, dude. I know you're smart. Let some silence sneak in to the broadcast. Relax.
My Mother in law's 92nd birthday is tomorrow (July 10th) she watches every day game (she goes to bed too early to watch a night game) it would thrill her if you would wish her a Happy Birthday on the air. We are having a party for her tomorrow and she is having a CUBS cake.

I know you two (Len and Bob) don't make these decisions but when are the Cubs going to get rid of Carlos Marmol and get a reliable closer that can throw strikes? If a closer, or any pitcher for that matter, can't throw strikes when necessary then he shouldn't be a closer or a pitcher at all. Marmol single-handedly lost yesterday's game in the 9th. The Cubs had played a great game until Marmol came in. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Quick question:
Was just watching Jim Henry's boy talking to Soto.
Question is:
How many General Managers kids ever made it to the Big Leagues?
I ask because they are learning from the best, just like athlete's kids. And, there are many kids of those who played the game who also play.

Back in thee 60's our family (from Wilmington, NC) was in Wrigley for a Cubs game and a fan was heckling Santo from the 2nd or 3rd Row on the 3rd base line. Ron had made an error and the fan was hollering at him calling him Pizza Belly in reference to Santo's pizza being sold at the park and Ron letting the ball go between his legs. Ron ended up approaching the stands and having a few words with the man. Who remembers this?
