Eggspensive eggs?

The always great Tom of Xanga posted about how eggs are so expensive at two bucks for a dozen. But really, aren't eggs cheap?

I always thought eggs were incredibly, incredibly cheap. But then again, i don't bake cakes or use mayo. How many eggs does it take to make a cake? Does it take like 12 of them or something. I have no idea.

But really, to pay one or two bucks for 12 fragile eggs and have them transported all safe without a crack, from the chicken's butt to the shelf on the store is rather amazing.

It's kinda like paying 42 cents to mail a couple sheets of paper to another city thousands of miles away. I'm glad to pay 42 cents, so i don't to walk thousands of miles to give someone a couple sheets of paper.

You rule.

The cakes I bake take anywhere from 2 to 4 eggs. But if I am baking 3 cakes, that can be a dozen eggs +poof+ Gone! Just like that!

If you wanna be all anti-environment about it, yeah, eggs could run you a mere two bucks. If you're like me, and try to buy everything organic, then you'll fork over almost five bucks for some nice, cage-free eggs. Actually, the great people at Phil's Farm offer cage-free eggs at just about the same price as those eggs that come from "factory chickens." THANK YOU, PHIL'S FARM!

Coincidentally, egg substitutes and egg whites (both of which come in a carton of sorts) cost more than double that of a dozen regular eggs.

I'd pay five bucks for eggs. These egg substitutes and egg whites, i have no need for. Maybe some day when i cook. But for now, i'm happy with a carton of five dollar regular eggs. They could even print advertising on the egg itself, and that would be cool. They should advertise Apple. Get it? Apple on an egg?

Egg whites have none of the cholesterol and 70 percent less calories than regular eggs (or something like that.)

NONE of the cholesterol. Whoa. That's Eggstraordinary!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any, though I could be wrong. Doctors always tell people with high cholesterol to eat egg whites instead of real eggs, so I'm assuming that they have significantly less cholesterol.

If you buy 12 yolkless eggs, you pay more so you dn't have to remove the yolks. But you end up with less stuff. But is it really worth it to pay that extra just to have the yolks removed? Couldn't you just do that half eggshell trick and remove the yolk yourself? I guess it's kind of a pain. Lately i've been into boilling the eggs, and sometimes i won't eat the yolk. I just pop the the little yolkball into the garbage. If i threw it out the window, do you think some animal would eat it? Maybe I'll throw my next yolkball at a squirrel.
