Never heard of it.
Me either, but I'm ancient and that may have come around after my time, but dork was certainly around.

c'mon people! Dynamite Outtasight Radical Kid! D.O.R.K. That musta been a mid-80s south side of chicago thing.
someone else posted about this on March 9, 2005. I'm not going to link to it because they use a swear word in the post and I don't like people swearing on the internet because there's kids out there. And get this. The person is from Orland Park, Illinois. It's totally a south sid thing. Do a google search for "dynamite outtasight radical kid" and the link will show up.
ha! spreading the joy of the D.O.R.K. acronym. I hope you are using it, Kelly! And you too, Tom! And you too, Cartophiliac! Y'all are my dorks!

whoa moose, i you totally commented while i was commenting, so you got left out of my dork comment. I invited the Orland Park blogger to comment on this post about where she heard about the meaning of D.O.R.K.

i have never heard this response to dork. This must have been a south suburbs phenomenon.
plus as an acronym it doesnt even work
it would be a
DOOSRAK
even if you take out the "out of" you are left DSRAK

Heya fred, just a FYI. I did not grow up in the south suburbs. I grew up in Beverly, a neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. And went to grade school in the Marquette Park neighborhood of Chicago. And actually, the D.O.R.K. phrase originated in grade school, therefore it's a Marquette Park thing.
The acronym works when you say it like this, Dynamite Outtasight Radical Kid. It's all in how you say it out loud. Try it. You don't say "out of sight" as three words. You say it outtasight. And the rhythm of the phrase is totally like the acronym.
Dynamite
*pause*
Outtasight
*pause*
Radical
*shorter pause*
Kid
