People’s reactions in the alley

It’s interesting to see people’s reactions to a guy with a tripod setting up in an alley photographing not only a dumpster, but a nativity scene on the dumpster. Some people just walk by. A couple cars just toot their horn alerting me to get outta their way. Other drivers slow down and wave.

One guy stops and we talk for a while. He’s lived in the neighborhood for 47 years and as a youth he would drink in the same alley where I was now photographing. He said people would call the cops on him all the time, cuz he was so loud (although he didn’t seem loud when as we were talking). He was excited that my camera was pointing in the direction of the old firehouse. Although I didn’t include the firehouse because it just wasn’t working in the composition. It was also interesting how this fella knew there was another dumpster a couple blocks down the alley.

I didn’t get a photograph of this dude, so here’s a drawing:

  1. I wish I knew what building this guy lived in. I plan on sending cards to the people who live in the building who uses the dumpster featured in these photographs.
