While in McDonalds there was this dude in his 40s talking to himself loudly. He was talking about how this year is the “two double-oh-seven.” That’s a cool name for this decade, “the double oh’s.” And “double oh seven” just makes the year 2007 even better.
We still don’t have a name for this decade? I wonder what did the people in the 1910’s call the decade of the 1900’s?
They liked to call it the “aughts”
yea, the 1900-1910 was/is referred to as the “aughts”. Though, I don’t think I’ve heard one person refer to 2000-2010 being the “aughts”. It’s one of those early 20th century words that died off. The most common phrase I’ve heard referring to this current decade is “the 2000s”.
The “two thousands” is certainly an inaccurate term, because what happens when we get to 2021? That’s still the two thousands. Ah well.
WHAT WERE THE 1910’s CALLED?
The Longest decade was because of the hype of the millennium bug (Y2K) remember! That started way back in early 1990 s. Everything that has a computer chip was supposed to fail on 01/01/2000. The world was supposed to end. The nuclear missiles, PC s, the elevators, the planes falling from sky’s, bank balances suddenly becoming zeros etc. The appropriate name should be the longest decade.
