Spam text has to be one of most annoying forms of online communication. It feels like an invasion of privacy. HOW DID YOU GET MY NUMBER?!
But today I got a spam message that was rather nice.

Well, if you have to receive spam text, it might as well be encouraging.
I didn’t click on this link (I blurred it out here), but I did find encouragement in this message. Yes! My concepts ARE worth publishing. THANK YOU!
So, uh… Thank you, spammer?
Maybe I need to reach out to my friends who are authors, and give them a little note of encouragement like this. If I found encouragement in a spam message, how much more meaning would a message have if it came from a real person?
It seems this year I’ve been getting about one spam message a week related to publishing.
* January 10: Matt Writing a book is tough job but we can help you out (I’m not including the URL from the texts)
* January 7: Matt, Are you looking to expand your thinking
* January 2: Matt, A book can change your life
* December 26: Matt Let us help in drafting a book
I got drafting one three separate times.
At some point i might reply with STOP. But today’s message was nice. They’ve earned a few more annoying spam texts. Which sounds odd, but it’s true.
