February 18, School of the Art Institute president Tony Jones and Columbia
College prexy Warrick Carter on “Memories of the Past and Dreams of the Future: Educating Artists,” Fullerton Hall
I thought this would be an interesting talk about art eduction, espicially since it had two big art school presidents there. The lady introduced them said they would each give a 15 presentation, and the remaining 30 minutes were gonna be for discussion.
Discussions are always good, so i was looking forward to that. Espcially since it was to be for one hour, just enough time for me to get home and watch 24.
But the art institute president just talked about the history of diversity in the school of the art institute and how they had one black student in the 1890s for 25 minutes while I was nodding off. Then the columbia college dude talked about how great columbia college is. Granted at least he kinda touched on some issues about how to have a good art education organization. He went on for 25 minutes. So I was disappointed that there was so little time for discussion. And then the discussion was just about having minorities in school. Bleh. I’m sorry, but i’m a white male, and I don’t want to be denied a job, because I’m a white male.
