Two-team fantasy league baseball
Being in a baseball fantasy league with just two teams is fun. Everyone on your team is an all-star. No looking up no-name players.
While you’re at it, don’t include pitchers. It’s too much work to look up who’s starting that day and then drop/add your pitchers to match up with rotations.
And instead of five-category for points, why not use just one straight up points system. Keep it simple. Keep it fun. Some people llike the details of a more complex league. But with this league, you get to watch all the best players in baseball and have a chance to pick them up.
That’s what my twin brother and I have been doing since 2000 (and also in 1992-1993). Click the comments link below to read more. And to see my fanypants graph.
==============================
We use eight positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF. Our formula is: H+TB+RBI+R+SB-CS
I put together a graph with all the stats for the top players from 2004. The stats are based on our league formula describe above. Also I also took stats from four different projection sources on the web and averaged them out into a database.
Each color line represents a position. The thinner lighter line is the 2004 stats. The thicker darker line is the projected 2005 stats.
The square boxes represent the batting average.
I also looked at how each player does at home vs. the road, day vs. night. With our leauge, the bigger the difference, the better. Because with such a large selection of available players with just two teams, we pick up and drop players every day. So if someone like Todd Helton does really well at home, you’re going to play him there. So on the graph the larger the circle, the more difference they have in their splits.

So here’s how the draft went. It ends up the same thing happened this year as last year. Erik drafted a strong outfield, while I got an excellent infield. But last year Erik beat me pretty soundly.
Matt’s Mashers √Ø Erik’s Khans
1. 1B Albert Pujols ï OF Vladmir Guerrero
2. 3B Alex Rodriguez ï 1B Todd Helton
3. 2B Alfonso Soriano ï 2B Bret Boone
4. SS Miguel Tejada ï OF Manny Ramirez
5. OF Bobby Abreau ï OF Gary Sheffield
6. OF Hideki Matsui ï OF Sammy Sosa
7. OF Jim Edmonds ï OF Carlos Beltran
8. C Javy Lopez ï SS Nomar Garciaparra
9. 3B Scott Rolen ï 3B Aramis Ramirez
10. OF Miguel Cabrera ï 1B Mark Teixeira
11. 2B Mark Lorretta ï C Victor Martinez
12. OF Ichiro Suzuki ï SS Derek Jeter
13. C Ivan Rodriguez ï 3B Adrian Beltre
14. OF Carlos Lee ï 1B David Ortiz
15. SS Michael Young ï OF Jason Bay
16. 1B Derrek Lee ï 2B Marcus Giles

your graph is Ssssmashing. i think the khan’s are gonna get klobbered.
Adding up my projection points for the starting lineups for each team, the Mashers are the projected winners of 2005. 2005 projected stats: Mashers: 6319 Khans: 6009 Difference: 310 2004 stats: Mashers: 6429 Khans: 5774 Difference: 655 The Khans are so low on 2004 stats, because of Nomar Garciaparra being injured for most the season. If we were to put in his 2005 stats for his 2004 season, here’s how it would come out: 2004 stats with adjusted nomar: Mashers: 6429 Khans: 6082 Difference: 347
To see the breakdown for position by position, here’s a nice bar graph:
The Khans Khan do it. Though we have been alternating who has won each year. 2000 erik 2001 matt 2002 erik 2003 matt 2004 erik 2005 ???? I think we alternated in 1992 and 1993 as well.
I’d rather have the premier outfielders who can put up huge numbers consistently rather than having the premier infielders who consistently put up just-ok numbers consistently.
top catchers dropped. The Khans dropped Mike Piazza. The Mashers dropped Ivan Rodriguez. Two classics kicked to the curb.
Victor Martinez is 1 for 15 the past week. He’s batting .198 so far this season with two homeruns. He’s been a Khan all season. Talk about dead weight.
The season is 25% done. Mashers: 1682 Khans: 1467 Difference: 215 Projected: Mashers: 6728 Khans: 5868 Difference: 860
I’m replying to this comment that the Khans left on the board: Subject: 241 by: Khans (erikkhans) May 26 12:22am will the lead get over 250 points? before wednesday’s games it was 241. Unless if you get all of my team onto one plane, and everyone on that plane eats so many darth mix dark chocolate m&m’s till they get sick and puke, my team will get the lead over 250. But of course, they will never get sick from darth mix dark chocolate m&m’s because they are a delight! By the way, the lead is now 242.
Who’s gotten their fantasy team the most points so far this season? Remember, this isn’t the players points total from the season, but only what they gave to each fantasy league team. Mashers — 213 .
