People who use air quotes with their fingers have “issues.” Now picture me saying that and raising my hands and making the hand gesture for quotations. The number of air quote pumps is directly related to the number of syllables in the word. “Issues” has two syllables, therefore gets two air quote pumps.
I dare you to try this as an “experiment” at your desk while you read. The word “experiment” has four syllables, therefore it gets four air quote pumps.

Thanks to sparxmind for initiating this idea via instant messenger this morning. Sparx, you “rule.” +single air quote pump+
three blog posts in a row without an accompanying photo. That’s “interesting”.
Moose, i think it’s more “lazy.” +double air quote pump+ (and dude, put that period INSIDE your airquotes, don’t leave your periods hanging out!)
In my experience, I have only seen and used +double air quote pump+, regardless of the number of syllables.

Carto, You are right. The +double air quote pump+ is the standard. I am suggesting a new standard. The +syllable air quote pump+ awwwwwwwwwwww yeah!
Not only that, folks with with issues invariably like to pronounce the word “iss-yoos” rather than “ish-yoos.” Either way, they don’t just have a stick up there, they have an entire picket fence.
“iss-yous” sounds like “misuse.” and that’s pretty funny.
I only do the “double air quote pump” regardless of syllables as well
Tom, it’s time for some “SYLLABLE AIR QUOTE PUMP ACTION!” +octo air quote pump+ Do it that many times and it’s like your fingers are talking!
