I was anticipating some doubting for when I was gonna mail this package . So when I went into the post office to mail this item, with a smile I told the postal worker behind the counter, “I would like to mail this item as is, with no envelope. I realize it may not make it to it’s destination, but I’d like to try to see if it does.”
Gripping the counter waiting for the denying response, I actually got back a reply with a straight face, “Well why not? Of course it’ll make it through.”
I responded, “now THAT’S the type of response that i like!” Post office: on my good side. She even took great care placing the stamp sticker on and putting clear tape over the address so it wouldn’t smear off. The american post office shared its love with me today.
I mailed a whole coconut once from Hawaii to some friends here in the state, just wrote the address on the coconut and it arrived…course it would be hard to break a coconut.
what is the reasoning behind this?
LOL… wow, that’s funny, cos I was just gonna tell you about how my ex youth pastor had mailed a coconut from Hawaii to his wife! Geez, I guess coconut mailing is becoming a popular thing! But, yeah, I’m not really surprised that they let you mail that as it was… i mean, it is self contained, so it would probably be ok. The only thing I would worry about it maybe it getting stolen, since people can see what’s inside. But a toy… probably no one would bother stealing such a small item. Anyway, yeah! Cool beans! 🙂
How much fun would it be to get a Pokemon key chain in the mail, or a coconut, or any number of things like that! At least you would know what you were getting and wouldn’t have to “worry” about opening packages!! Cool stuff. Good times.
The PO has had tons of mail art pass through; you can’t phase them. LOL
it all depends on who you are dealing with at the post office. some workers don’t want to deal with it and turn you away; others think it’s great
Coconuts would be fun to mail. Yes, the Post office is the great deliverer of all things. UPS and FedEx have nuthin the good ol’ P.O.
37 cents is still a great deal to send a piece of paper across the country.
I wish i could find a good website on mail art. Nothing really too good out there (a lot of text-heavy sites, not enough pictures). Hmmm… looks like a void needs to be filled…
when i go to london, i’m going to try mailing a piece of fried cod back to the USA. how will i get a mailing label to stick to THAT? or a cup of tea. or a scone…with some butter on it.
HA! Fried cod….Hmm, maybe you could duct tape the label to the cod, a little around the edges. Duct tape can be used for millions of applications!
The other thing I like about this experience is that Matt and the postal worker had a very nice human interaction that was purely positive.
well, i got the coconut, i mean the cool psyduck pokemon keychain in the mail the other day… and in tact. it was really cool to see this toy just sitting in my mailbox… naked like that. thanks Matt. even though pokemon is pretty much dead now… i still love that psyduck with his deadly mind control power.
one bad thing was it didnt light up like it was supposed to. 🙁
