Number of washer/dryers an apartment complex should have

In every apartment building complex, there should be an equivalent number of washer/dryers to units in the building. That is the best ratio.

e.g. My building has 35 units, thus there should be 35 washer/dryers. Instead my building has five. Last month I looked at an apartment that had 140 units with TWO–count em–TWO washer/dryers!

Nobody likes the stress of having all the units being used in a building. Sure, it’s extra maintenance to have extra washers and dryers, but I bet people do laundry a lot more if there were extra machines.

I agree. Or even if at least half of the number of units. It’s a great struggle at times, especially when most people get the same free time to do the laundry. The traffic is unbelievable.

We already talked about this. No. Bad. Of course, I have it easy because I have my own washer and dryer in my apartment. 😛 Do you really see people doing more laundry as a benefit? What happened to eco-friendly spudart? A 1w/d to 1apt ratio is dumb. A 1:2 is still overkill. 1:3 or 1:4 could be feasible though. Even better would be if someone opened a laundromat next door.

Although the 1:1 ratio is ideal, it would also mean additional cost. You really can’t find something like that now. You gotta a lot more for such privilege.

When I went to Germany many moon ago, my friend’s apartment/condo complex had a sign up sheet so that you reserved your time for the laundry. This makes a lot of sense so that you can balance out the usage and not make a million trips to the laundry room only to find out that the machines are all taken.

SpudArt: Ah, but you didn’t say how many washer/dryer units need to FUNCTION. So many times in my life in various apartment buildings have I schlepped large laundry baskets down to the basement to find one or more of the few laundry machines “out of order -MGT.” When I go home to visit my mother in Iowa, I have, on several occasions, looked at her washer and dryer for a split second, wondering where to put the quarters. One day, mom. One day I’ll have a washer and dryer of my very own. Loving The SpudArt Thought Blog, Mary

And NOTHING is worse than waiting for some lazy bones to get their arse down to the laundry room to remove their stuff! That totally sucks. Although I admit I have touched some stranger’s boxer shorts on more than one occasion in a fit of frustration (however, I’ve made sure to place them on a clean surface). Once, someone opened up one of the washers I was using (as I was using it!) and didn’t re-press the start button. I came back down to a washer full of soaking wet clothes and expired time. To make matters worse, I only had enough quarters to put the clothes in the dryer for 45 minutes, so I had to individually wring everything out by hand! Total suck-o! This is why I’m totally obsessed with doing laundry now that I have my own w/d. Fo realz.

I would like to know where to best place is to look for buying an apartment complex. Also what do you pay for a basic maintenace person and a leasing person?
