how long did the eclipse last?
If you an interpret this map, lemme know how long the eclipse lasted: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/SEhistory/SE-584May28T.gif
Ok, got it. According to this map: http://www.ancientanatolia.com/historical/lydian_period.htm the Lydian empire was pretty dang close to the epicenter of the eclipse. And the epicenter lasted 3 hours 49 minutes and 23 seconds. But that probably includes the time from when the moon just hits the edge of the sun. It doesn’t say how long the full eclipse lasted. Here’s some more info from that link: The expected trouble came in in the year 585 BC. and Lydians and Medes set out to fight on the eastern bank of the river Halys. About noon time, a solar eclipse occurred and suddenly became dark. Taking this as a sign from the god, both armies put down their weapons on the ground and made a peace treaty. The conclusion of the war with neighbors and peace treaties with other kingdoms in the area brought a short lived balance of powers to be destroyed later in 547 BC.
i bet zeus was pretty mad.
that crazy moon. it’s always causing trouble. i mean, it helped end a war, but they just started up again a few years later. what good is that moon anyway? i’m just kidding. the moon is awesome, actually. i’m going to make a post on MY blog about it soon. i just love the moon!
I wonder if anyone has ever battled over who owns the moon.
i don’t care for ownership of the moon, but i wouldn’t mind having a moon rock.
i own land in Alaska. Really. I do.
