On premeire shopping strip in downtown Chicago, Michigan Avenue, they are installing new containers in front of the Hotel Inter Continental. Here’s some ideas on what they will hold:
* Flowers / plants
* Swimming pool in summer, ice rink in winter
* Lizards (idea from dave rothkopf)
* Petting Zoo
What do you think they will hold?

Flowers. Definitely flowers. They are riciculously too large though. The sidewalks are too crowded without any people on them! Why did they remove perfectly good planters that were there to begin with, spend money on new giganto ones and put those up. Save the money and leave the old!
I like the idea of a swimming pool by summer… but I was more thinking of a free public kiddie pool… but someone would have to clean it daily… any volunteers???
Anonymous postings? I think we all agree: The new planters are a waste of money [what was wrong with the old ones?”> and obscenely HUGE. I think they were designed to push pedestrians out into the street. To the question: I don’t think Gordon Segal [Mr. Crate & Barrel”> would allow anything in the new “planters” that wouldn’t aid in the green-ing of Boul. Mich.
giant cactuses.
