On the south side of Chicago, my family would always sing a second part of the song Happy Birthday to You. First we would sing the standard:
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Chriiiiiiiiiiis,
Happy birthday to you!
Then immediately after that, we would pick it up a notch, speed up the rhythm of the song and sing, and sing with more intensity this part:
Many more birthdays to you,
Many more birthdays to you,
Many more birthdays dear Chriiiiiiiis,
Many more birthdays to youuuuuuuuuuuuu!
And yes, the “youuuuuuuuu” part would be sung until all the candles are blown out. My family ROCKS! In fact, now when I sing happy birthday with other people, it’s always shocking how people do not sing this second stanza. So I quietly sing it to myself, or be a dork and sing it out loud.
Thanks to Chris Kalani for inspiring this post with his post about people who sing “cha cha cha” in birthday songs.
the “many more birthdays” verse is essential. Some people like bounce up and down in their seat while singing the “many more birthdays” verse. Such activity is strongly encouraged.
Wow! How totally informative! I love this!
We always sang a higher-class version of the song… Happy birthday to you You live in the zoo You look like a monkey And you smell like one, too
i only know of the monkey birthday song to be sung in a extremely fast-paced manner either directly before or directly after the traditional happy birthday song has been sung. I have never heard of someone singing the monkey version at the same pace that the traditional song is sung. This is truly remarkable.
Nice! I didn’t know that this song has continuation. My torrents files search engine http://www.picktorrent.com . Hope you will have a look
