With spring comes the bright colors. Flowers bloom from the dark ground, butterflies emerge from gray chrysalides. Today, the colorful state flags arise on white flagpoles at Chicago’s Aon Center.

All winter long the flags were gone. My window faces this courtyard of 52 flag poles (50 state flags, plus two poles each holding an American flag). My view was of a field of empty poles without any flags. A long colorless winter.
But now such a colorful morning! The state flags are flying once again at the Aon Center. It’s great to see them outside my window once again.
When using the plural of chrysalis, you can use either chrysalises or chrysalides. I choose chrysalides because it sounds more official.
