Steve Jobs sticky note memorial on Apple Store in Chicago on Michigan Avenue

My sticky note memorial for Steve Jobs

Be boldly simple.

That’s my sticky note memorial I wrote for Steve Jobs. Lots of people wrote things like “Steve Jobs changed my life.” “I have a hole in my heart.” Do you really? The man is a great thinker. He’s bold. He’s daring. He gets his vision out. That’s inspiring. Hmm, I guess he could change someone’s life. But I wasn’t about to write that.

Instead I wanted to share what I learned from Steve Jobs. And that’s his committment to quality. To not step down from quality and the user experience. I like that. It makes me step up my game and want to achieve better quality and not just schluck things out.

Maybe I should have wrote “be boldly quality.” But that doesn’t make much sense. I took out my sticky note pa. I always carry one with me. Incidentally, I wasn’t purposefully going to the Apple Store to do this. I was going to Macy’s down the street, but I simply could not pass this up.

Reasons why I couldn’t pass by the Steve Jobs Memorial at the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue

1) It’s a public art project. yay!

2) It’s a collaborate art!

3) It involves sticky notes (one of my artistic media of choice)

4) It’s tied in with Apple. I’m an applehead.

There were all these people looking and taking photos. I needed spaced to think about what to write. I walked around the corner, leaned up agains the wall and wrote:

Be boldly simple.

is what i’ll remember from Steve Jobs.

Now I had to find a place for my note.

I looked up high. Meh. I don’t like it too high, cuz then it’s like mine is up on this high place. But nobody had been leaving any way down low close to the ground. Perfect.

I like it lower to the ground, because that keeps it’s humility. It’s also offset from the others. It doesn’t need to be part of the crowd. Think different.

RIP Steve Jobs With all due respect, what I will remember Steve for outside of his innovation is his penchant for taking the “planned obsolescence” ball and running it through the stadium like Forrest Gump
