The Braided Belt: Generation Splitter

You know when someone is past the Gen Y or Gen X generation when they wear a braided belt. Those things died out in the 90s. Let them be buried circa 1995.

Y’know those braided belts that people wear on your pants under belt loops. They are not big (the big ones that women wear over dresses and stuff are nice), but i’m talking about the regular belt size that people wear with a shirt. THOSE braided belts.

If you see someone over the age of 30 wearing the dorky braided belt, you know they belong to that older generation. If you fit that description, get a clue and TRASH THE BRAIDED BELT.

Right on! I loathe the dork-identifying braided belt. Next, can you talk about pleated pants and crew neck t-shirts under open collars? I hate both of those things. Nobody wants to see your underwear under your open collar or v-neck sweater. +shiver+

spud, i’m a bit surprised at the fierce tone in this blog post. especially considering the numerous times you’ve promoted green efforts. encouraging folks to throw away a useable belt because you find it dorky seems environmental unsound/biased and also a bit elitist. it’s not very nice to judge someone based on their clothing choices. especially when you’re not sure what their financial priorities/restrictions are.

Judging people on their clothes is the American way! Whether a braided belt cost $1 or $100 it’s still dork-tactular! I saw the clear division of generations in my office elevator this morning thanks to this post and I judged away mentally pointing at the dorks with the braided belts! As far as being “green” there are other ways to “trash” your dorky accessories: give them to the poor! Now, about those pleated pants …

sheesh at you “fierce” tone people. LIGHTEN UP! Matty is not encouraging you to go fill up a landfill with old belts literally. give it to goodwill. you act like he advocated the clubbing of baby seals

I was noticing all the braided belts at work yesterday! There is definitely a generation gap showing!

Yipes! I’m totally unhip. Braided belt, pleated pants, open collar with undershirt showing. 🙁 Who want to fund my new wardrobe?
