IDEA: Draw on your computer monitor

Literally, draw right ON it. Take a dry erase marker and you can start doodling right on your screen. Your co-workers might think you are crazy, but it's an interesting exercise to see your monitor in a new light.

If you draw enough on your screen, you'll notice that your mouse arrow actually looks like it's about an inch below the glass. It's as though your monitor is like a swimming pool. What you normally look at is at the bottom of the pool, while the glass surface is the top part of the pool.

There's no worries, because if you use a dry erase marker, it will wipe right off.

Perhaps I will buy a dry-erase marker and use it on a computer moniter in the near future.

On whose? you may be asking.

I am moving out of my current apartment for the summer and into a dormitory. Maybe my room mate will have a monitor.

i wonder if dry erase would come off easily on LCD Apple Cinema Display. It's more of a mat surface than the glossy surface of CRT monitors. I don't think I'm gonna experiment. A couple designers at my work were begging for the fancy displays for months. And IT thinks it's some sort of blessing that we have these things. They're nice, but I'd rather have Corel Painter and a CRT than a Cinema Display and no Painter.

You bring up an interesting point with the LCD displays. Funny how they are called "displays" instead of "monitors." I guess "monitors" sounds more clunky.

I'm guessing a glossy finish on an LCD would be fine, but the displays with a matte finish might be trouble with a dry erase marker

I was just going to comment about the LCD monitors. I was so tempted to try it at work today, but I didn't dare.

In any event, I love your presidential drawing, spud

Oh! I forgot to mention that it's funny that you talk about how the mouse feels deeper when there is something on the surface. I've noticed that in the past if there was a gnat or some dust on the monitor how far away everthing on the screen felt, it's almost akin to Alice in Wonderland Syndrome, for me anyway.

have you ACTUALLY tried this Matty? It seems like a bad idea. Dry Erase aint always that Dry or Erase. Maybe i would try it on an unused old school monitor/display

I have indeed tried this. In fact the photos in this post are my monitor at work! :-)

"Matty"?

Well I can't afford to draw on my computer monitor, I have a new lcd and the last thing I would want right now is to draw on it. I might reconsider this but only after few good years.
