It certainly doesn’t fit with the image of the new boring mascots. I guess Greece isn’t trying to keep a cohesive story going. It DOES look like a pen! Maybe you can carry the torch and then put it in your pocket protector!
My first thought was that it was a pair of tweeers. Perhaps Greece has a stray nosehair. heh 😉

According to the Athens 2004 website the design is based on an olive leaf. I still think it looks more like a fancy pen.
