Two Powermac G3 Towers combined into a supercomputer

My brother owns a blue and white PowerMac G3. I own the same computer. This model is basically useless now. Mine sits in my closet. Erik’s sits in his basement (which is basically a big closet).

It would be great if we could combine these two computers together to form a supercomputer. Kinda like how the Constructicons merge together to form Devastator. In all reality, it would really end up more like Bruticus Maximus.

It’s really a shame that TF2 made Devastator into a big lethargic dope. It’s a good thing TF2 didn’t have any blue and white G3 macs in the movie. They would have shamed the G3.

remember back when the blue and white G3 macs came out and people thought Apple was going to be purchased by Disney because you can see a sideways mickey mouse silhouette in between the Apple and the “3” on the side?

The blue and white G3 is awesome. It has that super latching system so you can get into the guts of the computer super easily. I loved that. It was great servicing these computers back when I was in IT. Though it always saddened me when a user had their G3 tower door facing a wall so I couldn’t open it easily. I would have to disconnect the wires and turn the whole thing around. Though the users that did have the door facing out was quite handy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1Open_Power_MacG3.JPG

Some day I plan on using my blue and white G3 to make some sort of storage system or shelf. not quite sure what for though. The vibrant cheery blue color of computer isn’t my favorite, so that becomes factor when incorporating it in my living abode. The G4 towers graphite color is much better, but the G3 is more classic and vintagey since it was the first professional computer to break away from the industry-standard beige color. Remember those days when ALL computers were beige?

You can link them both together using a Firewire cable and then use xgrid to do parallel processing. We use a similar set up with 8 eMacs daisy chained together for a render grid on Final Cut at my school. Don’t know how much good it would do with just two G3’s though.

15 bucks a month to run a computer? eee gads. Is that with a CRT monitor or LCD?
