Really bad fonts

SANS SERIF FONTS I HATE:
futura: oh so difficult to pull off right. But when it’s done right, it’s beautiful. When it’s done wrong, it’s a freakin horse. So I just avoid it at all times
kabel: people try to use this as a fun font. But it just looks wrong. The combination of big rounds and yet it still tries to be a skinny font. Just weird. And not a big fan of how it uses angled bridges
avant garde: gawd, another ugly-a55 round font
flora: trying to be 70s in a bad way
tekton: can we PLEASE get another font for architectural drawing that looks better than THIS?

SERIF FONTS I HATE:
bodoni: Those serifs are just too dang thin
Nueva: Just hideous as sin

FUN FONTS I HATE:
bodoni: WORST FONT EVER!
studz: do i really need to explain?
rad: oh wait, i think this is worst font ever. At least Cutout filled in their lines
lemonade: ok, so this isn’t too bad. But it’s just too thin. It’s like a sorry excuse. "Well, i needed a handwriting font and this is all i had."

I am offended. The Bodoni types were the culmination of nearly 300 years of evolution in roman type design, in which fine hairlines contrast sharply with bolder stems, and serifs are often unbracketed. Bodoni is recognized by its high contrast between thick and thin strokes, pure vertical stress, and hairline serifs. It brings elegance and sparkle to any graphic image, including headlines, text, and logos. -president of Bodoni Lovers Club

in response to matt’s feelings about bodoni and to the president of the bodoni lovers club, I completely agree with the president of the bodoni lovers club. Bodoni has been around for such a long time that this particular typeface is still used today for it’s timeless elegance. I am also offended by his response to the futura typeface. I suggest he should remove this discrimination against these two typeface on his website or further action will be taken. -president of the ol school typeface lovers club

The great thing about Bodoni is the very thing that Matt hates about it: Thin serifs. I love how subtle the serifs are, even blown up the balance between the body of the letter and the slim serif says “subtle”. Not every component of every font has to shine. Sometimes it’s the less-than obvious characteristics that determines the overall appeal.

“Matisse s paper cutouts inspired Gail Blumberg, Adobe art director, to create a typeface of figures. Her biggest challenge: keeping each Cutout design in scale. It s not easy to make a standing figure, like Y, to be the same size as a curled up figure, like G, Gail says.” That’s the quote on Adobe’s website for the font, Cutout. It’s funny how Gail the “designer” is bitching about how hard it was to create that ugly a55 font. And I’m sure that Matisse is not pleased.

Here’s Adobe’s line on Studz: Studz was inspired by ornamental lettering from an 8th-century manuscript, to which Michael Harvey, British type designer, has given a riveting contemporary flair. The name suggests studded leather. “riveting”? how about “hurling” contemporary flair? contemporary? flair? where? am i missing something?
