Listening to a baseball game’s tv and radio broadcast is like being at a party and listening to two conversations at once.
This party has the Chicago Cubs’ Ron Santo/Pat Hughes on one side, and the White Sox’s annoying Darrin Jackson/Ken Harrelson on the other side. In an odd way, i listen to Jackson/Harrelson just to fuel my fire for not liking the White Sox.

It’s annoying when the sox announcers yell out that “You can put it on the board. YES!” thing. It’s so silly that both announcers say the “YES” part in unison. That used to be the old sox announcer’s line. And when he got fired and they hired that Darren Jackson, Harrelson probably told Jackson that he was going to do the homerun call, but then then Jackson got all upset cuz he’s the play by play guy, and he’s supposed to do the home run calls. So they probably came to the agreement that both of them were going to do it. Which ends up sounding so lame, everytime I hear them both yell out “YES” after a homerun, I think of how those two announcers probably dont’ get along in real life. Oh. that’s good. I’m gonna put that as a comment on my blog. : D
i thought hawk was play by play. it doesn’t matter cuz neither of them talk much. i cannot stand hawk and dj. they are terrible. every once in a while i try listening. it’s insulting. they are so full of themselves. they forget they are broadcasters. the second the sox start losing or even playing poorly hawk and dj are silent. i hate it. when the other team hits a homerun they whisper a 3 or 4 word sentence. they are such babies. do what you’re paid to do, hawk and dj…. call the f’ing game. geez. yes, announcers are supposed to favor the team that pays their checks. But these two bozos take it to the extreme. they pout when their team does something bad. Don’t pout. Just call the f’ing game. I shouldn’t call them bozos. At least Bozo the Clown did what he was paid to do. Hawk and DJ don’t. As for the their trite homerun call. It’s too predictable. It’s not exciting. It’s boring. Every single freakin’ time a Soxxer hits a homerun, they do the EXACT SAME THING. I understand some announcers have their tags for homeruns. Some might say Harry Carry did the same thing with his “it might be, it could be, it is! homerun! holy cow!”. I remember thinking about this topic back in the days of Harry. He used that homerun call no more than 50% of the time. I would dare to say he used it only 20% of the time. And he even occassionally used it for fly balls which made it fun. That’s what a homerun tag is supposed to be… fun. Harry didn’t abuse his homerun tag. Hawk and DJ not only abuse it, but they pour gasoline on it, light it on fire, throw horse 5hit on it, dice it up into little bit-size pieces with an ax and force it down the throats of all those unfortunate enough to be listening. I don’t know about you, but i don’t like such treatment after watching a homerun.
about a month ago, DJ said that if never played in the Majors, then you don’t understand baseball. Yes, he said that. What a slap in the face to not only White Sox fans, but baseball fans… to say that non-Major Leaguers don’t understand the game. What horse 5hit. If that’s the case then all ballplayers that feel that way should go to some isolated island and play baseball with no fans watching. Because based on his point, what’s the point for having fans? They don’t understand the game. Ball players don’t want them there cuz they don’t understand what they’re doing. So they should say “screw the fans. We’re going to play on our own without any attending watchers other than fellow major league baseball players watching.” And this came from an announcer! An announcer. Announcers describe what’s going on for the fans. Why would DJ, the announcer want to call the game for people who don’t understand what he’s doing? Not only is his statement incorrect; it’s hypocritcal. White Sox fans should have demanded for DJ’s resignation immediately. Kudos to the early afternoon radio guy on AM 670 (his name escapes me at the moment) for raising hell about this. He and Hawk fought it out over the airwaves the next day. And what do hawk and DJ do the next game? They say that the radio guy doesn’t know baseball. what a bunch of creeps.
hey faggot ass cubs fans. why do you care? sox fans love Hawk just cause the cubs suck ass is no reason for you pussies to be bitter, how are the cubs announcers doin? oh gettin booed constantly? how are the cubs doin? oh, shit, I’m forgetting something. you dumbasses mentioned how Hawk and DJ know nothing about baseball. Good point asshole,, they know nothing. I challenge you to find a crew that’s played over a longer period of time. If you actually listen to the broadcast you would know that Hawk and DJ have the most baseball knowledge of any broadcasting crew in the mafor leagues.
ouch!!!!!
Notice the White Sox fan responded to this comment board nearly a year after the last entry was made. They come out of the woodwork with the “Mighty Whities” big start. Nice language by the way KUBES. I watched the Sox fall to the Indians in extra innings the other day, and I believe DJ reacted to the loss with the effect of “Hey, I’ll take it. Keep winning two out of three. We’ll see you in the playoffs.” After starting 24-7 .. the White Sox have played close to .500 ball. If they continue at that pace they would finish with a record of 90-72. At the Twins’ current pace of winning five of every nine games, Minnesota would finish 92-70 and move into first place in about five weeks. See you in the playoffs indeed. Go Twins!
man, you cub fans are pathetic. the white sox just swept colorado, and are the only team with 40 wins, at 40-19. good call on them playing .500 for the rest of the year. i think the cubs would be lucky to play .500 come season end. and that you care enough to slam hawk and dj, you dont understand that sox fans who are about 25 and younger have grown up on hawk, hes got that job for life, so its pointless, and i say this objectively while admitting that i love hawk and dj and the white sox. you probably think its a good thing that chip carey and steve stone left wrigley too, huh??!
Wait a second…who won when the Sox played the Cubs?

Certainly, they weren’t going to continue on at a 24-7 pace with their current lineup, but on June 7, it is way too early to attempt to extrapolate the kinds of trends you were trying, if for nothing other than the fact that differences in scheduling can create false appearances of greatness or weakness. Furthermore, Jerry, you are making a straw man out of Hawk here. He said: “Hey, I’ll take it. Keep winning two out of three. We’ll see you in the playoffs,” which I take to mean something to the effect of: “well, it sucks to lose one in extra innings, but you know, if we keep winning 2 of 3, losing one like this isn’t going to dampen our playoff hopes too much.” Free country, though, take all the cheap shots you want. Since the 24-7 start, they are NOT playing .500. They are 19-15, which is, ironically, above that “5 of 9” trend you predict for the Twins. Granted, on June 5, they were closer to, but still above, a .500 record for that period, but the recent victories over division-leading opponents should at least portend a better fate than the one you so smugly predict. It’s a long season, and who knows what will happen, but since we’re 4-1 so far against the Twins, I like our chances as much as anyone’s….
