Free graphic design magazine 6x/year

Want a free graphic design magazine mailed to you six times a year? Here is a funny story about how my free subscription was accidentally mailed to someone else for five years.

Graphic Design USA has been the trends magazine for and about the professional graphic design and creative community for over 50 years.

You never have to pay a penny for this magazine. If you are a graphic design or creative professional living or working within the United States, you are entitled to a free subscription to GDUSA. This includes the 6x a year print magazine and their two monthly design enewsletters.

Totally! Free? Yeah. Sign me up! I’ve been a subscriber for 20 years!

Granted, the print magazine is full of ads. But it’s also full of graphic design and great features, like:

  • People to watch (and Students to watch, Educators to watch)
  • Top design schools
  • Logo trends report
  • Print design survey
  • Stock visual survey

GDUSA has annual competitions:

  • Graphic Design
  • Inhouse Design
  • Package Design
  • Web Design
  • Health+Wellness
  • Digital Cover Contest
  • Student Design

Today I got an email from Graphic Design USA asking for me to renew my print magazine subscription for free.

I clicked to renew. The form that came up had my old address from my apartment. I moved out five years ago! Oops. I guess it’s been that long since I updated my address with them. I’m glad they finally decided to ask me to renew.

I had moved twice since that apartment. I loved that apartment. I lived there for 13 years. And now, for the past five years, whoever lives in that apartment was getting a graphic design magazine addressed to “Mattdesignmonkey Maldre.” Haha. Can you imagine the person who lives there? “Who is this Mattdesignmonkey guy??? Oh well, this is a pretty neat magazine. Thank you, Mattdesignmonkey!”

Here’s a screenshot of the profile page that GD USA asked me to update:

Using an altered name to track who shares your information

Yeah, when I sign up for stuff, I like to make up a fun name, so I can track if they share my information with anyone else. If I start getting other postal mail addressed to “Mattdesignmonkey Maldre”, I know exactly where they got my information from!

But thankfully, GD USA never shared my name with anyone else. Thus, you can feel safe subscribing.

This is not an ad. I wrote this blog post to share the funny story of how someone else was getting my magazine subscription for five years.
