After work yesterday I went shopping for some brown or tan pants (preferably the stretchy kind) that would go with my shirt that I bought at H&M at lunch.
I went down to Marshall Fields, and they had the whole place all different. I knew they were reorganizing things. And it does have a kinda more hip feel to it. But I felt so disorientated. And for now, I don’t like the redesign. I feel like the men’s section got the shaft. Where there used to be men’s clothes are now women’s. I think the men’s section shrunk down, which is quite upsetting. First off, men don’t have as many clothing stores as women. Okay, I can live with that, because men don’t buy as many clothes. But when it comes to places that I can RELY on for good clothing, I don’t want them making their department SMALLER. Oh well, I can’t complain. Life is good.
Anyhooo, so as I’m at Field’s and there are all these tables everywhere with all these martini glasses and people standing by the tables. But the store is pretty empty. But all the staff there seemed to have this kind of energy. It was so odd. I had no idea what was going on.
Some tables had cotton candy. Some had ice cream. Some had mixed drinks. And I found it very odd the people behind the tables weren’t offering me anything, cuz here I am one of the few customers in there, and these cases and cases of drinks, food, desserts, etc.
I didn’t find any clothes that I wanted at Field’s, I got the feeling that I didn’t see everything, but I still went onto Old Navy. Old Navy didn’t have any pants I wanted. Onto Nordstrom’s rack. Nothing there either. Onto Sears. Nothing there. Onto Carson Piere Scott. Nothing there.
I thought I’d go back to Field’s. As I entered on the side with the L train, there was this HUGE mass of line of people coming in from the State Street side. My mouth dropped. Then it all started to fall into place. The empty store, the food, the people who didn’t offer me anything. They were getting ready for all these people to come in at a certain time, and all these people had tickets. I didn’t have any tickets, but that was fine with me, because the lines for anything were super long. And here I am trying to shop.
At this point, I still wanted to get my haircut, and you can imagine it was getting quite late by now. So this was going to be a quick breeze through Fields with a different strategy. Looking for something to go with my black stretchy pants. So now I’m looking for a shirt. Completely different strategy. But now there are ALL these people. People everywhere! It was insane. But I did manage to actually find the Kenneth Cole area and some other hipper clothes section. And I actually got a nice shirt. I might wear it tomorrow.
