MLB.com has a game called Beat the Streak where you try to put together a hitting streak to beat baseball’s legendary record of 56 games. Choose one player every day who you think will get at least one base hit. If your player gets a hit, your streak is extended. If he fails to get a hit, your streak ends and you can start a new one.
Be the first eligible participant to get a hit in 57 straight games and win $3,000,000 in cash.
I’m also doing my own little pool/league and if you win the league, you get $20 via paypal from me!
How to join the Amazing League:
1) Send me a message via the spudart contact form
2) I’ll send you an invite to join our private league via mlb.com.
3) You click on the link in the email and join the league.
So far nobody has ever defeated me in Beat the Streak. One year I got an 11-game streak. In 2008 I won with 12 games. In 2009 I won with 13 games. Think you can beat that? If you get the longest streak in the Amazing League, you get $20. It’s totally free to join my league. I’m offering the twenty bucks out of my pocket just to make it interesting. One year, we had about 10 people in the league.
Last year I got up to 9, I think. It’s super easy to maintain. You can pick players 10 days in advance. So basically, just check on it once a week and you’re set. The 57 streak prize is actually $3,000,000.
Thanks for the correction about the MLB 57-streak grand prize. It’s now fixed in the blog post. Also, last year you hit double-digits with 10. Here’s our chat conversation about that: 10:01:09 PM yikesmoose: THE TWINS WIN! THE TWINS WIN! 10:01:19 PM spudart: you got a hit too 10:01:32 PM yikesmoose: I predicted them to win the world series around the all star break. they were 30-1 odds which is pretty high 10:01:37 PM yikesmoose: I KNOW! 10:01:41 PM yikesmoose: TEN! 10:01:47 PM yikesmoose: I MET MY GOAL! 10:02:55 PM spudart: it’s neat how that continues over into next year 10:03:01 PM spudart: well. mlb.com doesn’t carry it over 10:03:14 PM spudart: but it’s intereesting to think about
I have a streak of one game with Aaron Hill oing 1-for-4 with a double in the 8 inning. Look out 57!
Ok, I am now fully going to do Beat the Streak. I had Derek Lee set as my backup and I haven’t touched it. But now I will be picking players every day. LOOK OUT.
It would be cool if MLB sent you a text message when your pick gets his first hit. Or sends you a text message when the game is over and he doesn’t get a hit.
i’m riding a three-game streak now.
ha. just as i’m about to start doing the streak, i realize there are NO games today, as it’s the All-Star break. So far Erik has a 8-game streak. I now have a goal–to get 9 games. Right now I have a two-game streak, and i set up my next players for the four games after the break. LOOK OUT.
For what I had on record in 2009’s post, i had streaks of 6, 6, 8, 10, 13 last year.
